It's usually 10-15 minutes for potatoes.
Weird meats you wish to sample... Page 10
Won't that turn them into strips of mash?
Well, the smaller the potato slice, the less time you cook it. I was just thinking in general.
Anyway, it's not my technique of doing chips. So I'm only guessing.
I want to know because I've heard they come out gorgeous done like that. But I don't know how you're supposed to time them so they're how they need to be.
Cut your chips a bit thicker than normal. Place in cold water and bring to the boil. Keep it boiling, but turn it down enough so it doesn't boil over After 5 minutes, poke a fork in one of the chips. I'd guess it needs to be firm, but not hard. If it's still hard, keep boiling and check again in 1/2 minutes.
Continue until the fork can easily pierce the edge, but not the middle.
Carefully drain and gentle shake around chosen draining device. The chips should start to fluff on the outside, which means slightly mashy.
Then I'm guessing you just chuck them in the chip pan. But I'd make sure they were well drained, t'otherwise you might DIE!

Right, that's what I'm having tomorrow! I still haven't got round to cooking anything decent yet Damn me! Chips will be some sort of start though. I might look for some fancy fishcake recipes now.
Thankin you Rusty Leevil!
Typical Lincs' lad! I can cook, I cooked chips t'other night!
It's true though
No, it's great. 'specially when you make a fancy fish n chips.
Fishcakes should be fun. Can't remember if I've made them before, but I'm sure I have in some form. They should be easy enough. You might want to buy Golden Bread Crumbs to get that familiar flavour. I think Paxo do them, 50p or sommink?
Recipes might suggest making your own breadcrumbs. You could do this, it's cheaper. But trying "crumbing" a slice of bread/toast and see how long you last before a) eating it b) End up with loads of "big" crumbs and wonder why you just didn't bother with the Paxo packet.
Fish and chips is by definition 'fancy' to us Lee, be honest
I think I would've bought the breadcrumbs anyway - well, or whatever the fancy recipe will say I should do! At least they'll contain fish, which is something most chippie fishcakes seem to miss these days.

Oh, how I miss the East Coast...
I haven't had a Yorkshire Fishcake in years. Oh, how I miss them.
I also miss Jumbo Sausages.
But mostly I miss Cod.
Anyway, yes... what was I saying?
The Southies don't do jumbo sausages??
I suppose you could buy two and sellotape them together but it's not the same.
And haddock is waaaay better than cod. Cleethorpes rules for its sublime haddock and chipe. Oh how I miss them
No, I'm not saying they don't do them. Haven't looked. I'm talking about since going all veggie on my arse. I just order "chips" now.

Ohhhh, of course >_<
Can I ask you, if you ever split up with your girl would you go back to meat?
I realise that sentence is waaaaaaaaay too ambiguous!
No I would not turn gay!
Seriously though, I started going veggie before I was with her. Cutting out different meat, the red stuff went first no problem. Only ate chicken and fish for a while. It's only since moving in with her I found it easier to live a veggie, well vegan(!) life style.
I suppose if I ever got with a meat eater, I could be swayed but I don't really want to be, as I love all the 'ickle baby animals and couldn't imagine chomping on them!
