Being a geek, I'm sure you've already read up on it, but here's a thread with recommended settings for that model. As usual with most televisions, the default settings are crap.

I'm confused I was going to go with a sony 32 inch with 100Hz but that is an LCD so maybe that is where the difference lies.

*jealous*
Got a sweet discount on it too. Now's a good time to be buying TVs, folks!

Of course. I will be paying little attention to such threads, since my viewing habits are so wildly different to ... well, anyone else's, but have been looking around a bit.

With the current market and technology improvements/development speeds, I'd recommend going for a plasma.
I'd vote for plasma too. But there's not much wrong with LCD. It's personal preference. But I suspect that if Plasmas were cheaper, that would be the market leader. If prices keep on dropping, then that may be the case.
Worth noting that the new Freeview standard (DVB-T2) begins broadcasting next week, in a staged rollout across the country (it's part of what the analogue switch-off is making way for), bringing free HD channels to our homes (BBC, ITV, C4, and possibly Five - they're unsure if the latter will work properly as yet). Sets supporting it will be ridiculously expensive to start off with, but set-top boxes (which you will need to purchase anyway, if you want the chance of recording HD shows) will hit the market in mid-/late-January.
Consequently, shops will be wanting to sell off their DVB-T stock, and IIRC are legally obliged to inform you of the change and that you won't be able to get it with the current sets. Quite a bit of bargaining power for the consumer in the next couple of months.

Cheers for that Aaron the 100Hz sony I was looking at is £699 for a 32 inch!!!

Sonys are always overpriced. I'm a big fan of Samsung TVs.
Marc, it pays to do quite a bit of research before you make a purchase.
Read lots of reviews on different 'sets. A lot of people are idiots, but you still get a general idea of what's what.
I'd say, go and browse around Curry's for example, and pick out a favourite, then go back and search for prices and reviews on line.
Top name brands aren't necessarily better. You could be paying a few hundred pounds more fort something that a cheaper lesser known brand is also capable of.
There's lots of good reviews for this telly - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/154997
It's LCD and a weird named brand, but the reviews suggests it performs as well as top named brands and at half the price!

Yeah, Sony appear to have become "cocky" if that were possible and don't seem to be building anything of any worth lately.
I'm a Panasonic fan myself

Blimey!
Well, as Lee said, head to a shop (Curry's, Comet, your local hi-fi store), and see them in action. Those in a local shop are more likely to have a good setup rather than the out-of-the-box crappy settings. Also, a good HD screen doesn't necessarily also mean a good SD screen. I'm not sure what kind of things you'd be intending on watching (Sky HD, Freesat, Blu-ray?), but you're probably going to be consuming mostly SD programmes and films for a while to come, so check out the reviews online and the set on an SD channel in-store if possible. I chose mine on the basis of its great reputation and reviews on handling of standard definition pictures.
Yes, good point Aaron. Standard Definition can look blocky/pixelated on HD TVs.
The display settings they tend to have in Currys, etc tend to have the colour and contrast setup way too high (to show off the vibrant colours ) Ask the assistant to adjust the settings.
Some of them have crap speakers. Watch out for that too.

And indeed to make them visible at all, under the harsh flourescent lighting.
