Agree about the second object, don't know what might work better though.

I can honestly say I didn't get this. The irony is lost on me.

I'm not sure "irony" is the right word here. The nutter's problem is that he can't differentiate a picture on a T-shirt from a real person. Whether the T-shirt is being worn ironically or not seems to me to be neither here nor there.

That said, I think you've got a great punchline.
