Please critique my shorts

No, not the union jack ones I regularly wear abroad, but some short pieces I have had fun making at www.xtranormal.com

You'll find them all here. Basically there are 3 ideas. One is a bloke who is rubbish at interviews, the second is all about reading between the lines of job advertisements and the third is the world's most wooden stand up. Feel free to comment good or bad, on the relevant page onm YouTube or indeed here. Thanks

Some reasonable gags in there but the acting completely ruins it.

Thanks for the comment. Agree the acting is rubbish, but sadly unless I hire a couple of actors, it's that or having them purely on paper. Acting aside, of the three ideas was there one that worked better for you than the others?

Purely on paper wins it for me. I couldn't concentrate on the dialogue due to the clunky delivery. I think this presentation may be doing your writing more harm than good.

Agreed.

Agreed also.
Would be interesting to try and write something deliberately for this type of animation software though.

Not sure what that would be. The wooden stand up came about because is suited the delivery from this site. The other two ideas were just because I had no other voice outlet route to go down.

I don't think you need a voice outlet. IMO for the most part even many YouTube sketches have the potential to damage the material because the acting/camerawork, etc. is a bit crap (there are notable exceptions amongst BSGers but in general this still holds. In terms of critique most people on here are cpmedy literate and can see what a written sketch will look like as performed. I really think that's your best option to get effective critique.

I enjoyed the Dave sketches and did not think the medium detracted too much from the quality of the writing. In fact I find the flatness of the xtranormal delivery quite amusing. A nice runner.

Curiously the more basic version of the xtranormal software seems to work better for comedy.

Thanks Timbo. I must admit that at the time I didn't think they came out too badly given the nature of the exchanges. i.e. only a question and answer to follow. I agree that proper actors would bring something more to the piece but xtranormal execution versus just seeing it on paper? I'm not totally convinced the delivery was that clunky that it was impossible to get some enjoyment out of them, but of course would prefer a lavish treatment.
