Sitcoms that end with the cast revealing they...

...were just actors after all.

Miranda has gone back to the 70s (and why not) with the end of episode waving to the audience from the cast. Very 1970s (possibly 80s as well) and very camp.

Aaron came up with Are You Being Served in the Miranda thread, and I can think of Hi De Hi and Allo, Allo which also indulged in this campness, but I am struggling now to remember any others. I KNOW there are others that did this, but can't get the pictures in my head. This is driving me nuts so please remind me which other sitcoms ended this way. Thankyou.

Didn't "Dad's Army" end with the "You have been watching..." thing as well?

You mean sitcoms that end with closing credits showing each actor's name as he/she smiles to the camera/studio audience?

You have been watching is David Crofts sign off.

Basically anything involving David Croft...

Hi De Hi, 'Allo 'Allo, Oh Mr Beeching, You Rang, M'Lord etc... :)

EDIT: As Marc just pointed out. ;)

Yes, you're right, it did, and Steptoe & Son ended in a way that revealed it was a TV sitcom, with Harold usually chasing Albert round the room, but I don't think either of them actually ever had the actors waving to the screen. It is this waving at the end I am after. R U Being Served is the best example of it I think, because the camera would go to each character at their sales desk, and they'd give a camp little wave. Brilliant stuff. More examples please.

Long time no see - and I never watched it religiously - but I'm sure Roseanne occasionally ended with the cast doing silly things, at times acknowledging it was a TV show. Such as Roseanne showing off an Emmy, IIRC.

Wave

Thank you sir, I'll add that one to the list.

Have any American shows ever ended like that? Movies have, haven't they?

Happy Days used to have them smiling/waving at the audience didn't they? Though at the beginning, rather than the end? Errr

Er,.......no.

OK, they weren't waving, but they did stand there looking vaguely embarrassed...
