OK, so I'm not Columbo! But Columbo only ever has to deal with one f**king suspect, doesn't he? Why it takes him up to an hour and a half to catch him/her I'll never know. Even Bergerac was able to exclude any suspects who didn't live on Jersey.

I really don't know what to say about that - I can't believe someone would go to those sort of lengths.
There's probably just enough in that original letter for a linguistic expert to work with. As for tracing the sender, there was something on Crimewatch in the last couple of years about an anonymous letter sender, but I think they caught him because he was a repeat offender who kept returning to the same post box - which they monitored carefully on CCTV.

Omg! What a disgusting and shocking ordeal to endure.
How someone can inflict this kind of cruelty and stress on another is beyond reason and like everyone else, I hope the police are able to catch whoever is responsible quickly and bring them to justice.

Depends what company it's sent through. If it's Royal Mail (most likely), then yes, there'll be a stamped mark on it with the sorting office, and sometimes a series of dots and lines which I guess is some kind of more detailed ID sorting code.

Lee (or administrators), is it possible to track through all past posts you've made about your work for example, and see if there are any dissenting voices, or see if there is a pattern to replies from a particular poster? Alternatively you could track back to see if you yourself may have passed comments on someone's work on the critique pages, which have caused some offence, or even could have caused offence to someone sad enough to take it too seriously, but they haven't stated it. Look for names that may have had a go back at your work or even your other posts in the following days or weeks. You may at least be able to narrow suspects down this way, but I'd do it with an open mind and let the police and the administrators act on any clues you gather. Good luck.
Lee, I'm new to the forums but I spent quite a few months browsing through the backdated stuff. You certainly stand out and I always laughed along with your posts. What a shame.
This person should be caught and dealt with severely.
I know you've made your mind up. I'd like to say to you don't let this dangerously idiotic act put you off continuing on here, but I'm sure you've thought it through carefully.

Surely the guy delivering the post questioned it, seeing as it was visible on the back?

I like the fact the Royal Mail apologised for the condition it was delivered in. As though that was the salient issue.
