I don't use this forum for critiquing anyway, just for talking about bollocks (literally in some cases). I've never put any of my work up.

I put up my fiction on specialist fiction critique sites though, and that's been very useful. So it can work.

Where, where? We want to reeeeaddd... :)!

No chance!
The site's called Zoetrope though, it's really good!

Telllll ussssss...

:)

Tell you what, when I get a book published, I'll let you buy a copy.
Fair?

Booooo...

That would be a party trick!

Sorry Frankie I got the wrong end of the stick. Glad you didn't take it the wrong way, you're a much better person than I am. Good to see a debate though.

Just wanted to resurrect an old thread and liked this one.
Yes comedy is subjective frankie, but surely there is good writing and poor writing. Why for example does everyone agree say Fawlty Towers and Porridge were examples of good comedy whereas something like " orrible " by Johnny Vaughan was universally slated. There has to be some objectivity there surely frankie

I think in the case of 'Orrible, the fact it had anything to do with Johnny Vaughan made it shit, nevermind the actual writing.

I am not familiar with "orrible" I doubt I would have seen/heard it by choice as I am no fan of Johnny Vaughn. Universally slated? That means everybody in the universe slated it, which probably isn't true and therefore you are incorrect. He! He! :)

But I am sure you're right; there is some objectivity when you start to talk about classics like Fawlty Towers but even FT was panned by the critics when it first appeared. Episodes that were panned by the critics were probably later hailed as classics by the same critics. What happened? Cleese didn't re-write it.

Anyway, let's move on mate!

I remember watching 'Orrible and just not laughing. I seem to remember that JOhhny Vaughn came out defending it and having to explain why people didn't get - that's usually a bad sign if you have to do that. I'm pretty sure he said there was going to be a second series, but it never happened.

I'm rubbish at critiquing, so I hardly ever do it. I only say the nice things I thought of it, not the bad.
So yes, I for one am definitely no practical use.

I'm the same Zooo. I hardly critique but when I do I only comment on things when I want the writer to know i enjoyed it. I think when i have posted up the few things i have -the thing i want to know is that someone enjoyed them as much as i hope they would.

When i have something constructive to say - like what i particularly enjoyed or what i thought could be different i say it. I hope that people don't see my enjoyment as unconstructive criticism else i shall refrain from commenting at all. I am not a professional and I don't expect anyone to take my comments seriously, but to believe me when I say I laughed when I say I laughed!

But if you could all continue telling me you enjoy my work that would be most appreciated. :)

P.S Just seen that this an old thread and i probably wouldn't have bothered posting on it if i'd seen...ooops. What i said still stands though...but like Frankie said...movin' on! :)

I agree Ellie!
