On this Day In History 8.11.1939

8th November 1939, The Bürgerbräukeller, Munich.

Scene One

Georg Esler and Hans Van Smitt are huddled together in the cellar. There is the sound of singing and foot stomping in the traditional drunken Nazi manner from the room above.

Esler is fiddling with the timer on the bomb. He sets it and we see it ticking.

Elser : It's done, quick lets go.

Elser and Smitt leave in a hurry.

Scene Two

Elser and Smitt are driving away in a fast, black car.

Smitt : How long did you set the timer for?

Elser : I gave it over an hour. You know Hitler. He'll be late and then drone on for two hours with his hypnotic evil voice.

Smitt : Let's hope the bastard's plans don't change and he does a short speech.

Elser: ( Laughs ) Like what? Can't seem him coming down the Munich Strip Bar can you?

They turn their heads and see the Strip Bar all lit up we pan out and see the Billboard above.
"One Night Only – The Lovely Eva Braun"

Event – Failed assignation attempt on Adolf Hitler. The bomb went off half an hour after he finished his speech and had left the Burgerbraukeller.

Too subtle? Or not even a gag there?

Have you been taking history lessons lately Bigfella?

Google is great :)

I thought it would be a good excerise to try to write a sketch everyday about an event in history.

Sharpens the mind, old boy.

"One Night Only – The Lovely Eva Braun"

It's funny and a worthy member of the series.

It might be more effective if you changed the middle line to:

Elser: ( Laughs ) You know how he loves his speeches. It'd take something pretty special to make him cut one short.

I laughed, it's a good visual punchline at the end. And I'm a bit of a history buff so I'm loving this series of sketches in general :D

It works for me.
