It's good and I'm a Gervais fan. There's just something uncomfortable about Andy Millman. The people he surrounds himself with are idiots, but so is he! There's not much contrast.

I don't get the impression he's an idiot at all. He's just an everyman character.

An everyidiot . . . ?

Me neither.

Me neither.

He's like Tim in The Office; has flaws but ultimately the voice of reason and the person the audience can identify with.

Exactly.

I understand it's part of the character progression as he "becomes one of them" and his ego grows, etc.

He is an everyman character, and that's the problem. He boarders in the middle, he's a blur. Which could mean he's giving the other characters room to shine, fair enough. But throughout the show, he seems to be preaching he wants to make something to be proud of, obviously reflecting his own real life feelings. So why not be brave and create a character that has a personality, fully rounded and memorable?

I feel like there's something ive forgotten to Sky+ ... is anyone watching anything especially good right now . . . ?

Have you read the scripts to the show? There's a good section in the intro about the Millman character progression, how they wanted him to be completely normal but discovered he needed to really want something so the show to work. So they came up with the idea that he really wanted his own sitcom. If anything I think Millman is a bigger character in series 2 than in series 1.

Yeah, I'm sure he is more developed and I understand the character. But I just don't think he's a great sitcom character.

The flux capacitor.

Thats what I tell customers what is wrong with their boiler when it's broken down, when I haven't a clue myself. Sadly, true.

'It's the flux capacitor, unfortunately..'

'Oh, is that expensive?'

'...dunno'

:D

Yes, I saw that in the TV listings and was quite excited. Then I realised it wasn't the Fellini film with Dirk Bogarde (realised after about 20 minutes).
