Hello all,
Heres one of the sketches that I thought could possibly be broken up into its parts within the show. The show is aimed at 9 - 11 year olds.
(NB The kids will be playing this as kids.
Any comments ?
The C.L.F one
This sketch should work very well in a documentary style. Eric the founder member of the C.L.F speaks direct to camera.
Eric : I've been working in the CLF for two years now and this is our busiest time of the year.
Voice of Interviewer : Eric, could you explain what exactly is the CLF.
Eric : Sure, well the CLF or Conker Liberation Front started in 2006 and has some 2 members now. That's just me and Mary here.
(The camera pans to a small girl in an anorak and glasses, she waves nervously at the camera)
Like I said, this is our busiest time. People just need to learn that a conker is for life not just for Autumn.
Mary : That's right, only last week we were called out to a terrible case of conker abuse. This little fellah, we call him Benji …
(The camera moves to show a small cage with a conker on a little blanket with a squeaky toy next to it)
… was found, was found… (she breaks down crying, Eric takes over)
Eric : He was found in this! (He shows a photograph of a conker in an airing cupboard) In a blooming airing cupboard. It's a disgrace. (He looks at Mary who is now petting Benji) You can't help getting attatched to them. But that's not the worse, we found five in one raid and the poor little things had been soaked in vinegar.
Voice of Interviewer : Vinegar?
(A phone rings and is picked up off camera)
Eric : They use it to toughen them up, that and nail varnish. For the organised conker fights….
Mary : Eric, we're on!
(Eric jumps into action, they have been called out on an urgent rescue)
The C.L.F. two
EXT : On the Street/Playground
The camera is following Eric and Mary as they rush round corners.
Voice of Interviewer : Eric, what can you tell us about this?
Eric : Not a lot at the moment, all we know is theres an organised conker fight underway, early reports say it's a laggy versus a three'er
Mary : So these conkers will have been in fights before, it's probably going to get ugly.
(The camera crew arrive at the scene with Eric and Mary just in time to see several youngsters scarpering.)
Eric : Too late, too late, tragically as is all too often the case. Look at this, just look at this.. why? What makes people this way ? (Eric picks up a piece of conker shell) I can tell by it's shell this one had not long left the tree, it didn't stand a chance.
(The Camera shows the remains of conkers strewn across the ground, emotional music plays as if to intensify the carnage seen before us.)
V.O. : If you've been affected by what you've seen or would like to volunteer please contact us at the address given at the end of the show.
The C.L.F. three
Final scene can show images of conkers and their names up for adoption and a new loving home. Eg.
(To a photo of a conker) V.O. : This is Rex. Rex was rescued from a bad life with his last family. When Rex first arrived with us he was scared at the very sight of string. Now he's looking forward to a new life in a loving home. If you think you could help a conker like Rex call now on ………
