Regis Philbin is a daytime TV fixture over here. He was the original host of our Who Wants to Be a Millionare? and an all around obnoxious person that only old people can tolerate.

And they usually have him stuck next to some younger, attractive female (as his co-anchor and, most likely, support nurse). So just like our Brucie, really.
Exactly. Old women swoon over old Regis. My gran's best friend says that if she were a few years younger she'd give that trollop he works with a good thumping.

And Des O'Connor and most newsreaders. 'Tis the way of the world.
Brucie is a republican socialist who despises honours as corrupt system of patronage for the ruling class.
Oh sorry I confused him with Ken Loach, apparently the real reason he hasn't got a gong is because no-one likes him because he's a c**t.
He's pretty awful on Strictly. Those jokes...
Quote: Alfred J Kipper @ November 1 2009, 10:59 AM GMTI've always believed that they should be given out posthumously as well as a mark of respect to those and their families who unfairly missed out. Bobby Moore, Brian Clough, Peter Sellers and Benny Hill would be first on my list, as well as George Best - I deplore the way knighthoods are reserved for people only with 'respectable' private lives, this is grossly unfair and often leads to bland people getting them. It should be about how much joy they gave the public. Few gave more than those five. So come on Liz, cough up the medals.
Was George Best British? Probably not, so not eligible.
As for posthumous awards, that wouldn't happen as we've no way of knowing if they would have turned them down if alive.

Yes. Northern Irish.

Well he was certainly a drunken, immoral twat.

Not Brucie then.
Quote: Jack Massey @ October 31 2009, 7:59 PM GMTwhy on earth hasn't Bruce been knighted.
Because he's nothing more than a glorified song and dance man, with only half the talent of say...Gary Wilmot or Michael Ball.
Give a knighthood to Bruce Forsyth, and you might as well start handing them out over-the-counter to the likes of Mike and Bernie Winters.

I read the words Gary Wilmot in utter disbelief.
Gary Wilmot should get a K for his contribution to comedy alone.
Maybe, but it should be intentional.

There but by the grace of God..
Was GB British? Yes, about as British as they come. He came from an area where there are more Union Jacks per square mile than any other part of the world.
And the thing was given to several from the other side - Geldof, Miligan, Wogan - who flaunts his title around all the time, and yet thr other two weren't allowed to use the title because it's Honoury only to Irishmen. So how does Wogan get away with it???
