>_<

Sorry Moonstone, a hangover from when I lived in the States. It should have read maffs.

So is it not like conkers? If your mum has, through her helping of the poor, enabled thousands of horrible chavs to bring the society to the brink of collapse, or something, does she not have their scores count against her?

I really don't think taking a bus load of pensioners to Aylesford on a pilgrimage technically counts as bringing society to the brink of collapse.

But if it does, then Jesus will judge her at the Rapture.

Ok, not your mum. Somebody who works with "urban communities". What then?

I'm still waiting to hear a solution from any other forum member. I know that it is a very British thing to piss, moan and whine and not do anything about a problem except ascerting blame - usually to the wrong cause.

So to paraphrase Big Talk: 'Come on you eggheads! Sort this problem out!'

Something's are imperfect because they have to be. When surgeons, police officers, social workers etc get power in our society. They sacrifice it, pretty much all of it. They make decisions based on the need of the individuals.

Societies like the USSR, DPRK or Nazi Germany that chose to make value judgements realluy aren't very nice.

If you're thinking of American society then provision is based more on wealth, which is a pretty poor indicator of value.

A society that will support you with out question, is the same one that will protect chavs and crooks with out question.

If I die because Peter Sutcliffe beat me in a race to the neurosurgeon so be it.

Oh and I've known cheery volunteery type boyscouts who turned out to be child abusers.

And serial criminals who ended up doing 40-50 hours of vountary work with the needy.

We can all change.

If their actions help society, then they will be rewarded and points will be added to their scores.

If they themselves are ex-offenders, then it's the perfect opportunity to improve their low points tally.

:D

It was a very deliberate choice. Because it kind of relates to the overall argument. Mental illness is as debilitating and socially/economically costly to this country (and to "normal" people's families) as heart disease, yet it is considered 'unsexy' and is therefore chronically underfunded in comparison.

Yes, I dated psychiatric nurse, she had rather a lot to say on the subject...

I was of course, as you know, suggesting that, as scientific discipline, psychiatry has a lot of unfortunate historical baggage to live down, and to some extent, shake off.

W. T. F?

... Eh?

Dunno seemed to express an innefable truth.

You have to eat shit if you're poor and have no pants?

How silly of me, it's only this tiny minority that make Britain such a bad place to live.

The problems with our society are endemic and systemic, unless there is a radical civilisation shaking event, we will continue to go along this path of rubbishness.

There are a lot of very decent, honest and law abiding citizens out there who feel they're being given the rough end of the stick by both government and the theiving scum around them.

It's very depressing to see evil triumph so often.

Well that's why people believe in religion.

Have you ever thought of allowing God into your life? I have some leaflets from the Jehovis Witnesses somewhere.

Is it a bad place to live? I quite like it.

Actually I agree even at the seemier end of things, the scum are losing.

That said people should drink less.

Jehovis Witnesses

I'm imagining a small boy in a flat cap, pushing a bike up a hill in a northern market town, desperate to bring The Word. :)

I quite like some of RC's thinking actually. Not all of it, but some of it seems to make good sense.
You should start a party Mr. Carpark. You wouldn't even need to draw up a manifesto, you could just point poeple to this thread.
