Where to find a book editor?

Okay so I've basically given up with trying to sell to a publisher.

The fact I'm a bloke doesn't help, so I'm told.

So I'm gearing up to get it on lulu at the same time as the TV programme airs so I can mention it in any press interviews that I do.

I still have about 5000 or so words to do - but am thinking that I need to locate some to proof read my effort.

Any ideas where to find someone?

How much you want to pay?

Have you got an agent, bigfella? Because via an agent would be the best way to find an editor in this case, I think.

I found one willing to work with me through a friend of a friend.

No idea now much these things cost to be fair Kevin.

How many words is the full manuscript?

Oh and by the way Lulu books are pretty good. I bought one recently - Farewell, Great Macedon and the quality is superb.

60,000 ish ( just shy )

Yes. But I think she is a little bit coy with me now becuase she hasn't been able to sell it.

I have no friends Teary

I often see ads, people looking for editors, on elance.com.

I can't vouch for the quality of the service however.

Crazy idea, but what about re-writing it under a pseudonym as though you are a woman? And then reveal at the end you are a man? Like that film where the woman had a cock.

Though I suppose it might not link in with the TV programme too well. And you wouldn't be able to use photos.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh!

I like that.

But not sure how it will work. As you say the photos will be a no go.

Some aspects will work ok - but other things would have to be scrapped.

Not as a buyer, but I would caution you that there seem to be a lot of non-native English speakers (eg, Indians) at the lower end of the price range.

Is the book the same subject matter as the TV show? Weight loss, right?

Correct! The story of how I got to 43stone - had the operation and so far lost 15stone in eight months.

You should be aware that a proof-reader and a Story Editor are very different.
The proof reader will tell you where to put the commas.
A story-editor might suggest pretty radical changes to the content.

Sounds like you want the former - good news, as I think they're cheaper.

Sorry, no recomendations though.
