TUTOR RAGE

INT. TRAINING ROOM. DAY.

WE ARE PART WAY THROUGH A COURSE, ALL THE DELGATES HAVE JUST COMPLETED AN EXERCISE. THE TUTOR IS CLEARLY NOT ENJOYING THE EXPERIENCE. ONE OF THE DELEGATES (SIDNEY) IS HAVING PROBLEMS.

TUTOR
Right has everyone managed to do it.

SIDNEY
No, I seem to be having problems, I followed your instructions to the letter and...

THE TUTOR LEAPS THE LECTURN, AND THE DESK AND POUNCES ON THE DELEGATE. THEY BOTH COLLAPSE OFF CAMERA, WE HEAR THE TUTOR PUMMELLING THE DELEGATE, THE REST OF THE DELEGATES LOOK UNCOMFORTABLY AT EACH OTHER. HE GETS UP ADJUSTS HIS HAIR AND RETURNS TO THE LECTURN.

Anyone else have problems?

THE REST OF THE DELEGATES SHAKE THEIR HEADS EMPTHATICALLY.

Wouldn't it be funnier if the Tutor was all smiles and sunshine before he snaps?

It really needs some sort of build up, as basically you have just jumped straight into the punchline ( no pun intended )

I have already seen this script before so Danny already knows that I like this one..

I think a build up would actually detract from the impact of the punchline, but you have to get the sketch at that level..

Possibly it would be more of a mainstream sketch if it did have more build up (happy tutor slowly getting frazzled, etc) but I think the sketch would just become mundane then...

As it is, to my mind, this is a rapier like sketch .. it's over and got you (if you're going to get it..) before you know it, and it's got you hard!! LOL hard!!

It's a cult classic for those in the know..

I swear this joke has been done before just can't think where. I think it needs a twist sort of something like he teaches anger management or meditation or summin. Length is OK with me but at this rate Danny you're gonna to need 50 sketches to make a show

Define your "nope" Godot. Where is the debate and discussion in "nope" or "maybe"? "Nope" is a totally unacceptable comment for the BSG critique forum, in my opinion.

Is "Very Good" also 'unacceptable', then?
Both offer no constructive criticism but do help gauge a possible audience response.

A comment of 'very good' surely indicates that the sketch has somewhat hit the intended mark (unless they had set out to write an unfunny sketch) so is less likely to garner any further comment, as it set out to do exactly what it was intended.

Just saying 'Nope' indicates that, the person making the comments (and that person only) didn't enjoy the sketch, so the writer (for that 1 person) didn't hit the intended mark but unwilling to elaborate, which helps no-one.

Personally I believe Mr Taxi lives for making this glib statements and the subsquent feedback and possibly the only reason he's on the boards, I feel he's been watching a bit too many Simon Cowell moments.

I'm sure people prefer "Sorry, but it didn't make me laugh. Probably just me" to "Nope". But I still think it's useful feedback to know somebody wasn't amused.
When an audience sits stoney-faced through all your gags, they are effectively saying "Nope". And they don't have to elaborate as to why they didn't laugh.
