Although I have been a member (no purile double entendres, please!) on this forum for a while now, I have yet to introduce myself properly.
My name is Ben Ripley, I'm a Brit who moved to Australia in 1999 and I often get very homesick. One of the main reasons for this yearning malady is the fact that Australian television comedy is invariably pretty crap. I can safely say that many of my Australian friends will wholeheartedly agree with me.
I'm a fan of:
Dinnerladies
Spaced
The Vicar of Dibley
Fawlty Towers
The Good Life
Black Books
I'm Alan Partridge
Open All Hours
Dear John
Murder Most Horrid
Absolutely Fabulous
The IT Crowd
...oh heavens, the list could go on. But I shan't bore you.
Now, the 'Glutton for punishment' part of this thread is how I depise going onto forums and seeing people go on about the stuff they hate and then bicker about it with anyone who actually likes it. It is the most futile thing! Still, I return again and again and put up with reading the most annoying conversations with poorly executed arguments* and, all too often, dreadful spelling and grammar. (Everyone makes the odd typo, but really, some people need to take English lessons!)
Anyway, having got that little thing off my chest, I am going to try and not be a hypocrite and try and remain mostly positive about the things I post.
So I won't whinge on about how tedious I find 'catchphrase' comedy in today's sketchshows. I promise.
