Ideally, I'd like to get to the point that I'm contributing sketches to a sketch show. I'd love to form a sketch collective who all share similar ideals. Then we can take on the world.
how far you can go in comedy! Page 2
I'm in one and we sort of feel like that!
It's good to be in a group! Well we enjoy what we do and the camaraderie is very high and we do the best we can with what we've got!
Quote: james mccloskey @ September 25, 2007, 1:14 AMleevil i would love to be not bothered, but i am. it drives me crazy even thinking about comedy writing. hopefully one day i ncan make and urself, but for me its on my mind 24/7
I was once like you... but eventually I learned to not let it stop be sleeping and I eventually got into a partner of writing and now Im quite casual with my writing more than ever (which is slightly disappointing).
I'd love to get some of my stuff done, but I find juggling my first full time job and other hobbies a bit tough to do at the moment.
Keep it up though, you drive at it at 70mph you have a better chance of killing it than if you were like me........ walking at it at 5mph (Im a fast walker)
I would love to write screenplays whether it be sitcom, drama or film. I love entertaining people and there are so many stories out there. It gets to me that my creative job gets in the way as you are too tired to write at the end of it and i tried writing weekends but that was just knackering me out and spoiling my time for rest.
But I am trying to find a balance and I'm planning to drop everything for a couple of weeks to focus on a few projects I really believe in.
To be honest if I was earning a good salary for writing I'd be happy enough, but I am ambitious (as you have to be to succeed these days) and would love to make it to the top. After all, who doesn't want to be good at their chosen job?
It's hard to be creative when tired.
I was reading an article about Tracey Emin. Get's up about 8am breakfasts and potters around 'til 12-ish or so then lunches gets to the studio about 4pm ish works for a couple of hours and then takes the evening off! Ha!
Sometimes starts work at 4pm ish and works for 8 10 12 14 hours til drops if inspired! Ha!
That's the life, eh!
They are great moments when you catch an idea and spend a day or so on it. Not so great when you wake up the next day and have completely lost faith in it.
But yeah, I was trying to force myself to be creative after a long day of designing and whilst also feeling tired. The best thing there is to watch one of your favourite comedies.
Hopefully I can get every strong idea I come up with on screen.
I write constantly, I think up ideas constantly and I organize them. I build the comedy from the ground up and write the dialogue last when everything is in place.
I would rather take five years to write six episodes of a classic sitcom than five months to write Grownups. I'm interested in quality and longevity, not money.
My aim is to get a sitcom commissioned, hopefully make some decent money from it and be able to earn a living as a comedy writer, mainly for sitcoms, but I'd also like to dabble in sketch and maybe radio comedy too. I don't want the fame, I just want to be in the background pulling the strings.
I've got lots of ideas and doing a Creative Writing course at Uni will defo help me along the way, I'm pretty focused and passionate about comedy writing, I can't see myself ever stopping writing..even if I don't make it, I'll write till I die..I tells ya.
Top man.. that's what it's all about.. inspirational stuff.. Yay!
I'm going to be a comedy writer or I'LL DIE IN A DEAD END JOB, COLD AND LONELY.....seriously...funny guy.
I'm really skint - dfsperately in debt so can't afford to chuck my 9-5 job.
But I'm really enjoying writing all this crap. Hopefully someone else will to.
David, seeing as I'm being so complementative (is that even a word) today, here's yours, I enjoy your enthusiasm for writing and trying to catch me up in post count, keep it up, it drives me, not only to keep posting stupid crap, but to continue writing.

Like-wise David ... but we must keep going ...
