Bring back compulsory National Service! (Always a safe thing to demand when you're into your 30s.)

Yeah, and put it on TV so we can all watch.

Basically, bring back Bad Lads Army! :D

Exactly! A safe thing and a fun thing!

I considered raising this issue in a new thread but decided against. Basically, I was wondering if any of you have a famous friend in the sitcom writing industry and if they have helped you with your writing career or if you have ever broached the subject with them.

Well I know Tim Walker, but he's never helped me.

have you ever asked him?

Hi Katie, welcome to the site. Please use capitals in your posts. :)

I've met a number of comedians from going to smaller gigs. Lee Mack, Stephen Merchant, Will Smith and Stephen K Amos to mention a few.

Stephen Merchant. Lovey

I haven't met many comedians, the two who spring to mind, because I like them so much; Ade Edmondson in a pub and Gavin Richards on a crossing.

Other people; Johnny Cash, Rod Stewart, Suzi Quatro, ELO, Lou Reed, Peter Jackson, David Soul, John Astin.

I am always surprised at how some people are shorter in reality than they appear on screen, (apart from Johnny Cash). We went to see Robbie Williams in concert, he was diminutive, and had stunning eyes. :)

I know we've had this topic before because I remember posting this picture:

And saying how I met Paul Gross and not his dog. He's playing the devil now in the new Witches of Eastwick TV show (Jack Nicholson's previous role).

That dog is gorgeous. I want it.

Well, for one, he's not a famous sitcom writer. And secondly, he's a c**t who writes about himself in the 3rd person.

I spoke to Stephen Merchant briefly about sitcom writing and he sighed and said it was "boring". I'm not sure if he meant writing was boring, or just talking to me? Errr

have you ever asked him?

I'd be too scared of what he might expect in return.

Stephen Mangan was shorter than me, I found that surprising, but I'm not sure why.

See, you deny you're famous but you're clearly thinking about you're biography already!

Maybe ... um... big hands?

No, I'm thinking about James Cotter's biography. Whistling nnocently

Not really. I shook his hand, it seemed normal size to me.
