Fake meteorite country

First, take a look at this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8326483.stm

Yesterday night it turned out that it was hoax - a marketing stunt by Tele2, the second largest mobile communication operator in the country. The company has promised to cover all expenses of all emergency services and scientists involved in the case.

Now, a question: what would be public reaction to hoax like this, if it had been staged in your country? Would people just laugh and dismiss it? Would there be public outrage over wasted resources? Would Interior Ministry and subordinated institutions pledge to terminate their contracts with Tele2 and select new operator?

People here like things that are faked. Look how popular Jordan is.

Was watching the news today. The mother of the little boy who was thought to be in the weather balloon and it turned out he was in the attic has finally confessed that she helped her husband fake the whole thing in order to promote a reality show he was pitching.

It was the little boy who gave the game away at first by letting it slip during a live interview. Bet Santa isn't visiting him anytime soon....

Thanks to Latvia's Advanced Meteorite Training, yours will be the first country to spot the alien invasion, thus saving the rest of the world.

Bless Latvia, O God
Bless Latvia, O God,
Our verdant native land sod,
Where Baltic heroes trod,
Etc.

Here in the UK, we created the 'Crop Circle' hoax which went on for years, was featured in Hollywood films, album covers, the X Files, etc.

So look and learn Latvians, you have a lot of catching up to do - perhaps you can get an EU grant for Hoax-ery?
