When did Red Dwarf stop being good? Page 2

I grew up watching it, so it has a special place in my heart. But Futurama came along and wiped the floor with the 'loser in space/future' idea.

He was on Wogan quite a bit.

He's had his moments with a man wearing a wig as well !

Thought it began to hit its stride in series 2, and then 3, 4 and 5 were very good. There was a slight tailing off in series 6, but it really went downhill in series 7, and 8 was bloody awful. The revival was not as bad as I expected.

I didn't think it had Huh?

Six was ace.

As usual, Stotty's taste is impeccable! Legion (S6) was one of the best episodes ever.

I've always been convinced Groening was a Dwarf fan, there are so many similarities between the two shows. I remember in one Futurama ep a boat sailed off with 'fun in the sun' written in large letters on the back, hmmm.

Cool

Six also had the brilliant cowboy one in.

It went downhill in series 7. That Rimmer song was pure cringe.

When they started only covering Gamesworkshop products.

Series 7.

The dove virus one, yeah! It also had Psirons(sp) and Rimmerworld, which were also ace episodes imo.

Gunmen of The Apocalypse. It won an International Emmy, I believe.

Series 6 was good and looked great, It had a different feel as they were no longer in red Dwarf, which gave it a nice edge.
But it did start to get a bit formulaic, was that when they started all the Space Corps Directives?
Maybe they made the mistake of thinking that Craig Charles was the star & we wanted to see more of him, whereas I've always found Rimmer to be the best thing in the show.

Everything after series 6 was disappointing.

Series 6 is by far the greatest series. 7 and 8 were not the finest but 7 had some good moments mainly when Rimmer was in the episodes. I don't think Red Dwarf has ever properly dipped bellow par.

Rimmer is a better character then Lister but Chris was too busy filming The Brittas Empire to do both series.

It found it's feet, peaked & then went seriously off the boil.
A bit like The Beatles.
And the bit in the middle was the best.

I think they got a few in there before S6. They were great though. It wasn't a directive as such, but the 'go to blue alert' moment in Legion was ace.

Really? Actually pleasing to know RD won something, it deserved to.
