Well, that's good to hear, Tim. I must admit, it's turning my head a bit. But I'll wait to see what happens after several installs, updates and such.

Superficially it doesn't look at lot different to Vista, but that's OK because they've concentrated on greatly improving the functionability. They've streamlined the control panel stuff, so that you don't have to go through multiple steps to change something as well. They've also improved the selection of active windows and I've not noticed any major pauses whilst Windows takes its time to work out what you're trying to do.

I downloaded the upgrade (with a disk to come in the post), which took less than 2 hours (using Windows Download Manager - total download is about 2.3GB). The installation upgrade took less than a couple of hours and resulted in (amazingly) no obvious conflicts. The only thing I had to do was set up my router software security again, but the transfer of all other programmes and files was seamless. The Windows Media Center looks quite nice too. I don't have a touchscreen laptop, so I can't comment on that. :)

I shall report any problems, of course. There was (obviously) a few security updates already issued yesterday after the launch, but I've not heard of anyone having major headaches yet.

I was put off by the $120 upgrade price, since I only run Windows on a seldom-used netbook and an equally rarely used virtual machine on my Macs. But I see there's a family 3-pack for $150, so maybe I'll make the plunge and install it on my son's PC. With any luck it'll kill his WoW installation and he'll have to find something to do with his life and perhaps even get a job!

I have a trial version of 7 on my netbook and I like it, but I'm upset that I can't make it look like Windows 95 like I could with XP. I hate the new interface.

Huh?

Dancing, Tim.

Ah....

Huh?

To music, not just randomly.

Although I do that too.
