Yes, unfortunately we have been reduced by one estuary English speaking, Scots born slimebag traitor now living in America to this pitifully sad role.

Quote: Alfred J Kipper @ October 24 2009, 8:55 PM BSTWith respect, that is utter rubbish - the British were the first to outlaw Slavery and publicly regret its role in it. The only reason we don't go blagging on about it is because we have modesty and restraint while the Yanks shove their righteousness down the world's throat without it asking. The British don't lack confidence, but we are just too afraid of not being liked if we rant on about our past greatness. Do you really know the British soul at all?
Sigh we STARTED slavery the Americans merely bought our products.
And we distinctly not modest or restrained we just screwed so many people as opposed to anyone else, we suffer an embarassed silence. Your patriotism seems borrowed from a musty collection of Comando comics and an unironic viewing of Ripping Yarns. Believing in England and being patriotic is not the same as being ignorant.
Quote: Alfred J Kipper @ October 24 2009, 10:16 PM BSTAnd in almost every major world changing act of goodness and courage the British have beaten the Americans and most others to it.
Oh for Pete's sake. If it's WW2 you're referring to then we waited till; Poland, Spain, Czeklovakia and Finland had been f**ked. Then got involved when we knew it was choice between fighting in Kent or France. The individual Brit may have been heroic, but our government was vilely weak.
Quote: Alfred J Kipper @ October 24 2009, 10:27 PM BSTI wouldn't say they're loved, exactly, but we Brits certainly seem to be the world's favourite villain on the big screen these days.
It's because villains are always the juciest roles and we seem to produce loads of talented skilled actors. Mind you a few years ago it was the French, Hollywood is a bit random on such things.
Again with respect, ever heard of the saying 'biting the hand that feeds you'?

That's ignoring history a bit, sootyj. Hitler had no intention of invading Britain before we declared war and was pretty much a huge fan of the British. His plan was for Germany to dominate central and western Europe, whilst the British would continue to control their Empire territories overseas. Hitler was shocked and dismayed when Britain declared war. Appeasement would have been the easy option, even whilst France was being invaded. This is backed up by historical documentation.
Abd who are you referring to? You know I love this country and yet I don't feel that I'm made to feel ashamed by anyone. Why do you?
I don't think you meant Finland though - they were on Germany's side.

I keep forgetting Herr Hitler was a byword for reliability, honesty and sanity. He did rather like the bits of our royal family that shagged Yank divorcees.

That just made me feel a bit sorry for Hitler. >_<

Neutral really and swopped alegiance several times. I was referring to the unwillingness to do anything to help during the Soviet invasion. During the 1939-41 period when Russia was an ally of Germnay and cooperated in a number of areas.

It was Churchill's fault major cities were bombed.
Neville Chamberline and Hitler had an agreement not to bomb major cities and factory cities...but Churchill bombed, I think it was Hamburg. Then Hitler rained the blows..
Part the reason Churchill was such a great leader was he appreciated the depth of sacrifice neccesary for victory.

So you're saying Hitler would have tried to invade Britain if we hadn't declared war based on supposition related to his character? Well, why bother with looking at the historical evidence then? (A view shared by Holocaust deniers). A hunch is good enough evidence for you. Hitler may have had a sociopathic personality, but it diminishes the evil of the man to imply that he was insane. Madness can be excused. Hitler was not deluded or psychotic. He was (up to 1944) sane if sociopathic.

I almost want to bring you back from that high speed train but I can't!
Oh noes!

At least Adolf would have made sure those high speed trains ran on time.
