Postal strike Page 2

We've only been getting mail maybe two days a week now for months. It's caused lots of problems for me personally and I hope Love Film change to another courier asap.

Ironically my work for an educational union, which right now involves notifying all FE colleges in England of impending industial action, is being fouled up something rotten by the postal strike.

The Royal Mail management are doing a crappy job and have been winding their work force up for years. It's bit sad because most of the Unions were willing to accept that their industry was in decline.

One of the really big insults was when RM spent millions on installing state of the art plasma screens in all the delivery offices. For the sole purpose of allowing the chief exec to adress the troops from his office.

When are we all going to be minimun wage agency staff?

I haven't heard of any public or private firm in recent years that has such messy industrial relations as the Royal Mail. We will hear the usual rubbish about militant dinosaurs from the media (that no longer employs industrial correspondents) in the coming weeks but the truth is getting involved in an industrial dispute is a horrible experience.
Sadly relations break down and there is no point to having a union if you are not prepared to fight when necessary.

I suppose with the internet it's an industry in rapid decline. The delivery of online purchases can just as easily be done by courier companies.

Albeit why not post chicken livers and kippers? When they sit undelivered in sorting offices, they'll stink the bolshy twats out.

I'm not sure how long the present one has left to run, but Royal Mail have already lost the Amazon contract. The unions are just f**king themselves over, forcing themselves into irrelevance. See British industry in the 1960s and 1970s for prior examples.

(Moving this thread, as it's not really directly related to comedy.)

No, it was related to the delivery of merchandise. But as ever it's been hijacked and turned into something else.

For us living in London it's been going on too long. I manage the post in the company (well manage the person who sorts the post) and it's been a real nightmare for us. :(

Surely it's just a mega skive for you?

Not really - I have to report to the company when strikes are and keep an eye that our couriers aren't being used for non urgent things.
