Just to offer a different slant; this is my take on things...
Sending emails? Sending stuff in the post? Forget it, you need to think bigger.
Think about Bud Fox in 'Wall Street', and how he negotiated his way into Gordon Gekko's office.
Remember, there are two major battles in this industry: 1) To write something great, and 2) To get it read.
Do not play by the rules. I've lied and cheated my way through (business) life, but it's worked for me: I'm thirty-two years old and a millionaire. I'm not necessarily proud to admit that; but I'm certainly not ashamed either.
People often say 'cheating never pays'. It does; it's paid for my snooker and billiards room, for one.
I guess, in short, all I'm saying is that sometimes it's worthwhile thinking outside of the box; taking a risk. If that involves being a little underhand on occasion, so be it.
