Quote: Timbo @ October 23 2009, 10:38 AM BSTA playwright, I think, and general rent-a-gob. But non-politicians are often on Question Time, and usually make the best guests (something of a damning indictment on party politics in this country).
I totally agree she's a jumped up Yanky rentagob. I cannot stand this supercillious, patronizing loud mouth Yanky ball breaking bitch/person. The only reason she came over here like other irritating Yanks was because she couldn't make a name for herself in her own country. They now pick on us as a great opportunity to make it big and couldn't care less whether we actually want them here or want to listen to their strident modern American PC claptrap!! Bugger off back home Mz Greer, and take your white Australian sister with you. Please.
Blimey, calm down.
What was so annoying about her last night? And how is she 'jumped up'? I thought she was pretty good.
If you really want to "stop" the BNP I would have thought the way to do it was to listen calmly to what they have to say, allowing them to damn themselves out of their own mouths, while marginalising them by taking any legitimate concerns seriously and adopting them as part of mainstream political debate. But I suppose waiving placards and shouting them down gives you more of a sense of self-righteous moral superiority. Even if it does give the appearance legitimising BNP claims to be silenced voice of popular opinion, and so play into their hands by encouraging support from those who feel marginalised by current political system, and never being given the opportunity to discover for themselves what the BNP really stands for, assume that they are the only party concerned with their grievances.
I thought she was great. And I didn't realise the ice age was only 17 thousand years ago. That's not realy very long is it, in the scheme of things?

I actually thought the calm, mannered approach she adopted was highly effective. It was just a shame that her actual contribution was so irrelevant.

I've had some days in work that have felt longer then that.

OK then.

Ms Zoo, I have not yet seen last night's prog but I have been irritated by American liberal media types ever since thay started appearing on progs like Newsnight Review, and arts progs like Arena and the Bragg Show in the late 80s. Ms Greer is a particularly virulent brand of pushy, full of herself Arts based feminist that I have despised ever since Radio 4 first started airing them on Woaman's Hour. Bonnie Greer is definitely one of the more strident and selfconfident ones, very much like Germaine Greer in fact, only even nastier. No matter what non liberal men say in argument against her she will put them down with a sarcastic and dismissive remark. I heard her once on Radio 4 just snigger loudly and rudely while Boris Johnson was having his turn talking. She is truly awful every time I see her but I will watch the show with an open mind to see if she was less despicible later. I am quite calm, thank you.

Technically we're still only just coming out the ice age now.
The land mass of the British Isles is still recovering from the disappearance of the ice, which was most persistent in the North and Scotland. The country still is actually re-balancing itself from where the glaciers that were weighing down the "top" of the island melted. So the "top" of the country rises a couple of centimetres per year, whilst the "bottom" falls.

Thanks for the advice (echoes of 1938) This hasn't been a rational debate. It's more of an orgy.

Hm, fair enough. Didn't sound it, I must say.
Maybe watching something before commenting on it would be a nice idea though.
As I said before I can find Bonnie smug and irritating at times myself.

See I didn't know these things and if I hadn't watched the show this morning I would have missed out on this information. So well done Ms Bonnie. I may well visit the British Museum again. As to the other stuff metnioned in the debate I didnlt understand any of it I live in North Norfolk which is officially in 1936, it used to be 56 but it seems to be going backwards. Merlin could probably make sense of it.

In North Norfolk I suppose Griffin's point about the "indigenous British population" at least holds some water, considering the whole region can trace its roots back to the one couple who started North Norfolk 17,000 years ago.
I take your point, I will endevour to watch progs before I comment on them in future. It was not possible for me to watch last night's show as I was rodgering my mother in law (no not really - eeewwwww!)
