University Sitcoms

It seems the terrestrial channels have a bit of an obsession with sitcoms involving youths at the moment, moreso if it's school/university based. I'm thinking of The Inbetweeners, Coming of Age, Off The Hook.

Personally, none of these shows accurately reflect the time I spend at school or university and I'm just wondering what everyone else thinks about the sub-genre in general.

What kind of characters would you like to see in a university based sitcom? What kind of storylines? Personally, I could do with less of the Skins-type teenager model. Sex, booze and drugs were part of university life when I was there but it certainly wasn't the most important thing to anyone I knew. Is it me, or is there a distinct lack of studying in these shows? I don't know anyone who didn't consider passing their course as their top priority.

It'd be interesting to get some opinions. All feedback welcomed, good or bad.

You're not planning on writing a university based sitcom are you?

Ha ha! I can't imagine where the comedy aspect would come from to be honest.

No, I'm more interested in whether or not anybody else finds these kinds of shows funny (because I don't). If not, why not? And what would make them funny? Like I said, I can't see the comedy angle of university life. Perhaps mine was just uneventful!

Ooh, it's got Joe Millson in it. I went to drama school with him. I'll have to watch it now.

I did. A degree course in theatre or something.

Studying? Surely that's missing the whole point of Uni? ;)

If we're talking university, I don't think there's a definitive university sitcom. Although I'd like to see one on what it's like to be a lecturer surrounded by all this ripe and fecund sexuality.

He's great, Marc. Although his Sitcom Trials entry really was shockingly poor. So much so I think he was taking the piss out of them by entering it!
