Postal strike

Is anyone else going to be fouled up by the strike? I ordered the Alan Bennett at the BBC last week and was excited when it was dispatched a good 5 days before it is due to be released (Mon 26th). I thought I'd have it a good 2 or 3 days early, but it didn't arrive today, so now it's going to be caught up in the system somewhere. I heard on the radio that Amazon will be sending stuff out by courier for the next few days, but for me it's too late.

Any similar stories out there?

For how long has this postal strike been going on? I've been waiting for a Doctor Who DVD for two weeks now, so it might be because of the postal strike.

It started yesterday, but it'll hit Britain mostly today. If it isn't resolved there are some more strike-days lined up. I don't think the lateness of your DVD has anything to do with it though. What Doctor story is it, I'm just curious?

Althought the national strike only started yesterday, there have been regional strikes taking place, certainly in London, since June or thereabouts.

Plus a lot of postmen just steal. It's one of the perks of the job.

The Royal Mail management are doing a crappy job and have been winding their work force up for years. It's bit sad because most of the Unions were willing to accept that their industry was in decline.
This seems to be yet more New Lab half witted selling off the family silver to idiots

One of the really big insults was when RM spent millions on installing state of the art plasma screens in all the delivery offices. For the sole purpose of allowing the chief exec to adress the troops from his office.

I wish Labour would make some new mistakes and stop copying Thatcher's.

Not that many RM has a success rate pretty close to 99% It's mostly agency staff they use to avoid hiring proper staff.

When are we all going to be minimun wage agency staff?

When it starts raining gold bullion.

They've buggered themselves up. We send out between three and five packages of course notes a day. We have found a courier who is coming in cheaper than RM! So they have just lost themselves almost 5 grand worth of business a year there!

If they weren't on strike we wouldn't have thought about looking!

I think you misunderstand my inference.

They survive on junk mail at the moment. It'll be ineresting to see what happens when TNT starts a hand delivery service.

Considering the volume of mail they handle that's still a lot of stuff going AWOL. :(

C'mon you're a Dr you guys probably kill more people than tigers each year.

I'm not sure how long the present one has left to run, but Royal Mail have already lost the Amazon contract. The unions are just f**king themselves over, forcing themselves into irrelevance. See British industry in the 1960s and 1970s for prior examples.

(Moving this thread, as it's not really directly related to comedy.)

Can't decide whether you're being genuinely complementary there, Dr Mato, or just incredibly sarcastic...
