I went to visit a friend of mine in Philly back in the 90's and the actual city centre bit is cool, like a mini-New York.
However, when I tried to go to sleep, I could hear loads of crack dealer gunfire from the surrounding edges of the city.
Oh yeah, and it's covered in AIDS, like in that Tom Hanks movie, what's it called again? Splash.

The bits they showed in the Louis Theroux doc were aweful. I thought we had some ugly areas, but jeez...
Downtown Philly is nice, but it can be a bit creepy on the edges. I love the historical landmarks and the cheesesteak sandwiches. Not a big fan of scrapple, however. I wish I had time to pop down to DC for some sightseeing.

Like I said, the city centre was great - lots of good hotels, theatres, restaurants, nightclubs, etc. Oh and the Liberty Bell.
