Need

Unimpressed

Quote: Aaron @ October 22 2009, 4:44 PM BST

Need, not want. (Although I do want one. But I can't afford it, so don't want it right now.)

What's your opinion on Windows 7, Aaron? I was reading about it the other day and apparently Microsoft have taken the bold(?) step of scaling down the system to make it more streamlined for laptop/netbook hardware. The idea being to boot up, log on, go online more quickly and surf more efficiently. They're moving towards storing more user/app data in the "cloud" as well. Upgrade from Vista costs £79.99. (Apparently upgrading from XP requires a "clean" installation.)

Anyone excited about Windows 7? (And if so, do you suffer from Microsoft-related amnesia?)

One of the hinges has been a bit dodgy for a while, and the barrel's now come out of the casing - so the monitor's hanging/supported by just one of 2. :(

:D

SNAP! That's what's wrong with my old one, I tried using innovation to fix it but I failed. Settling on a cheap laptop to see me through and using the old one as a media centre.

You're probably not interested but my Linux based laptop boots up in 3 seconds. That leaves me more time trying to figure out how the f**k to use it :D

Yeah, I'll probably get a netbook and set this up in a corner somewhere, connected up for DVB-T recording.

I adore it. Really can't fault it at all. Fast, stable, reliable, pretty. I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone and everyone.

I'm considering paying for the upgrade, as I really only a (pretty decent) laptop now. Presumably I can do this via download? Also presume there's not too much hassle ensuring personal file safety during upgrade?

I like the touchscreen technology.

I would think that there are places you could download it, yes. I'm not sure where though - I downloaded it a few months ago from Microsoft themselves, so perhaps they're selling it through similar means.

I've not actually got around to installing that yet, but unless they've changed the upgrade process drastically, it just moves the contents of your hard drive (C: normally) all into C:\Windows.Old - assuming you have enough space. If not, then I would guess it moves the contents of My Documents as priority. If you've got a USB stick or external hard drive, or can burn to DVD or something, then you shouldn't have any problems.

Waiting for important phone call that had been arranged for 4pm. Must've been TEH OTHER 4pm.

Do tell me more about Windows 7. Ideally in great detail, specifically highlighting the bits where it's far superior to MacOS.

I'll be getting my new laptop soon, so I have to make up my mind which op.system I want. Decisions, decisions...

What kind of laptop did you get?

Once I can afford it and have bought loads of clothes, I'll get one of them light little netbooks. This Macbook is just to heavy to carry it around all the time.
