Plans for a return of the popular Scottish sitcom Rab C Nesbitt are
being considered, according to the BBC.
The heavy-drinking Glaswegian was axed from the small screen a decade
ago after eight series.
But discussions are now taking place which could herald the return of
the string vest-sporting armchair philosopher.
A Christmas special last year, in which Rab appeared a changed man,
having ditched alcohol and found religion, proved immensely popular.
The Daily Record newspaper reported a new series is now to be made
with six episodes.
An insider told the paper it was doubtful the new shows could be made
this year and it was likely to run in January or February 2010.
A BBC spokesman said discussions were taking place but could not
confirm whether a new series had been commissioned.
"All I can tell you is that it is in the pipeline," he said. "We
can't confirm that it has definitely been commissioned at the moment."
Rab C Nesbitt, written by Ian Pattison, first hit television screens
in 1988. It chronicled the life of a work-shy, foul-mouthed
Glaswegian, living in the Govan area of the city, and his long-
suffering wife Mary Doll, played by Elaine C Smith.
The curtain fell on the show in 1999 after 52 episodes.
