Words you always spell wrong and forget meaning. Page 2

Don't think so Kev because a warrant is not a negative thing, whereas a sanction is. Or put another way, warrant v and warrant n are not opposites.

Okay, here's one. Why Grandad, and not Granddad?

Just cos it looks silly I suppose.

Yeah, makes it sound like some weird gran / dad hybrid you might find out in the countryside somewhere.

Unconscious usually gets me, spelling-wise. Is that right? Probably not, sorry Aaron. Successful is another sod. Oh and someone said "taciturn" on Radi 4 the other day and I was annoyed to find I had no clue what it meant. I hate that. It makes me taciturn.

I often forget the meaning of Christmas.

approximately and necessarily, they just kill me. And entrepreneurs, too.

Thank God for those little red lines - I do not need to remember the spelling anymore. I misspelled all three right now, too.

Thankfully, I at least mastered the spelling of receive. I had problems with this word for years.

As to meanings I always forget - I can never remember the meaning of portside and starboard. Which is which? God, it's so annoying. What's wrong with left and right?

I'm always looking up words. I rarely remember for more than a couple of minutes what they mean.

On a similar note, something I have never managed to get my head around is betting odds and the like. Oh, and currency conversion. Uhhhhh... Errr

I can never spell neccesary necessary right.

Surprise (suprise?) is one that confuses me...

I'm always tempted to put a pie into recipe for some reason.

That one ALWAYS gets me too!

Mind you, so do a million other words :(

Why "THE Wirral" and "THE Bronx"?

Why "THE Wirral" and "THE Bronx"?

Think the prefix of "The" is used when areas are associated with a river of the same name. :)
