BCG sketch show

I'm newcomer to BCG (3 days to be precise).
Even though I dipped in to it now and again, I've found the mere act of becoming a member has made me addicted to logging in and checking on forum updates.
Bloody hell, I was thinking of giving facebook up because it took too much time up. Now this has become my first port of call when switching my pc on.

Anyhow, as the forum is enourmous I'm not sure if this topic has been raised before. Although I will be surprised if not (there seems to be a topic on just about everything):
So here goes :
Have BCG ever decided to compile a sketch show from their own members?
There seems no shortage of talent.
Maybe, with a few criteria, demograph aims, and a BCG member voting system put in place there could be the production of the greatest comedy collaboration ever born. Mmmwwwaaaahhhhaaaaaa!

Is this an unrealistic venture?

Has this been mentioned/done?

Do I sound like a naive nutter?

That's just what I always didn't think.

I apologise. Please continue...

It has, but it was a great idea and a nice thought.

EDIT:

My God that sounded so f**king patronising! :D

Sorry Dkmj, wasn't meant to!

OK! Well at least there seems motivation ... and to quote :

Motivation will almost always beat mere talent. – Norman R. Augustine

It has been tried before, but there's certainly no harm in trying the format again, DKmj.

Good luck, though. ;)

I can see the immediate pitfalls. It does sound almost Utopian.
But if someone is nominated to be a developer and accept sketches that they see fitting. Any submission chosen the writers maintain their credit. Whats to loose ?

What happened before.... Or don't I want to know?
Oh God...did you create a monster ??
It wasn't Two Pints of Lager was it?

Moving this to the writers' forum.

It's still here on General Discussion, Aaron... Wave

EDIT: Ahhhh, that's better. :)

Well we used the talent here to come up with these sketches: http://www.youtube.com/user/containsnutstv

I would say its very difficult to do. A lot of people taking up their free time for the shot (actors, directors, DOP, editor). It was a lot of work.

Getting the scripts isn't the difficult bit. Choosing which ones to film was though as we could only do ones that fitted the location of the house.

One thing though: you do need one or two people in charge and making the decisions. An elected system just will take forever and can easily be abused. Having someone in charge is how its done in the TV world so why reinvent the wheel, especially if its going to be a square one?

I wasn't so much thinking of filming a demo, but creating a sketch show script to then submit through regular production companies.

I know that sketch shows submitted in entirety stand about as much chance of getting commission as a one legged man winning an arse kicking competition.

However after spending 2 years toiling away to reach this conclusion it may be a more worthwhile and time saving route through mass colaboration.

If I posted a quick treatment that covered proposed style, feel, demographic aims etc. Then maybe it might strike a few chords with some of you writers ??

Any nudity involved?

Any nudity involved?

Nudity I would imagine would be compulsary.
This could be the Unique selling point. The Worlds first fully naked sketch show.

The Worlds first fully naked sketch show.

No.

There's this (not necessarily the first, either):

'Oh! Calcutta!' Created by British drama critic Kenneth Tynan.

The show, consisting of sketches on sex-related topics, debuted Off-Broadway in 1969 and then in London in 1970. The show sparked considerable controversy at the time, because it featured extended scenes of total nudity, both male and female.

The saving on costumes would certainly help with budgetary constraints.
