how far you can go in comedy!

Just wondering people how far you think you can go? I mean is it just a bit of fun in your spare time, have you a full time job? Are you ready to quit everything for that big chance, Do you think its your destiny? Me personally i think i can get my sitcom on t.v; cos 1:I cant sleep without thinking about my characters and plots, 2: i have worked so hard on it and 3:i can't stop until suceed.

I'm not bothered about my own show, I'd be quite happy to just be comfortable earning a living out of it.

I'm not bothered about my own sitcom, but I'd like to be part of one.

leevil i would love to be not bothered, but i am. it drives me crazy even thinking about comedy writing. hopefully one day i ncan make and urself, but for me its on my mind 24/7

Me too dude, my goal just isn't a sitcom.

so what is ur goal? sketch writing, comedy drama, sitcom?

My goal is to make a living preferably by not becoming famous and recognisable but thats always a necessary hazard

Bingo!

Not bingo, but this is what I want too. I just want to work in comedy, I want to create it. It's a 1 in a million chance you'll get a sitcom commissioned, that's not what puts me off it, in fact I'm not put off at all, I'd just rather be in other areas, like sketch writing.

Oh and maybe stand up, but I'd have to wear a mask as not be famous.

anything must be better than working in the usual balls. what would you say ur % of actually getting work as a comedy writer? and is it just a dream or a bare necessety(spelt wrong).

Well thanks to mr ajp29, we are getting work as comedy writers, so we won't be making a living out of it, but it's a nice bit of pocket money.

:)

:)

Im spending mine on prostitutes, booze and drugs that end in ack like crack, smack and *american accent* 'this shit is whack'

We've made a very few quid from competitions but ploughed it back into the group (filming equipment mostly), a five piece earning a proper living at it would need to gross £200K per year or more so that's a lot of dosh! Seems totally impossible at the mo.

I do think about creative stuff most of the time (after basics like food, sex, etc.)

If I can't breathe for any length of time I tend to forget the sitcom a bit and just think about sketches.

it is possible to achieve whatever you want in comedy writing. you just need to keep writing and following up every opportunity. it will take years but if you work hard enough then it will happen.
somebody has to be commissioned. and gervais, kay, walliams etc all had to start somewhere.
