I'd have loved it if that freak goal had gone in, in the final game of the season, with Liverpool needing only a draw to take the title.

Liverpool shop sells out of beach balls

Mischievous fans of rival teams have flocked to Liverpool's official online store to buy the club out of beach balls.

The Reds lost 1-0 to Sunderland on Saturday courtesy of a Darren Bent strike that deflected in off a large red ball that had been thrown into the penalty box by a Liverpool supporter.

Opposition fans revelling in Rafa Benitez's side's misery have bought all remaining 'beach sets' from the online shop, which consist of a towel, a bag and the now-infamous beach ball.
The sets had been reduced from £20 to £10 and have now sold out. They will be a must-have item for travelling supporters visiting Anfield in coming weeks.
Several web users have also left spoof reviews on the site.

'Natalie from Manchester' wrote: "I bought this set, but seem to have lost the ball in Sunderland. Is it possible to order a replacement?" while 'G from Johnon' commented: "This is one of the most flexible products I have ever purchased. Great for not only the beach, but can also play up front."

Liverpool fans are unlikely to see the funny side; the defeat was their fourth of the season, and leaves them seven points off the top of the Premier League.
Referee Mike Jones allowed the goal, although the laws state play should be stopped if any 'outside agent' interferes, and restarted with a drop ball.

Bent's shot bounced into the ball and deviated into the bottom-right corner past goalkeeper Jose Reina, who was so badly distracted he moved to save the beach ball.
Sky Sports News broadcast footage on Saturday of a young fan batting the ball into Reina's penalty box from the away end, but Match of the Day and the Sunday newspapers blocked out the fan's face fearing reprisals for his blunder.

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce said he did know the goal should not have stood, saying: "If anybody knew that rule - that it is supposed to be a drop ball - then you are a saddo."
However, former Premier League referee Jeff Winter said he was shocked Jones did not disallow the goal.

Winter said: "I'm absolutely amazed. It is basic law in football. The goal should just not have stood. The laws of the game state that if there's an outside interference the game has to be stopped."

This really is a pathetic comment from a Professional who should know the laws of the game. Everyone involved - especially those in the top flight - ought to know what he's involved in.

Apart from that it is quite hilarious as it probably was a Liverpool supporter who threw it on.

Yep, that'll teach 'em.

what a great day for football :)

liverpool and chelsea losing and man utd going back where they belong :)

It really would be terrible for football if those ********** win it again. Anybody PLEASE!

It comes to something when a big fat round red object (and I don't mean Benitez or Bruce) will score one more goal this season than some Premiership players.

If it was disallowed - as it should have been - it would encourage supporters to throw all sorts of things into their own penalty area in the hope that any goal against them would be disallowed.

"Ferguson has a history of improper conduct charges for incidents involving referees.

In the 2007/08 season Ferguson was given a two-match touchline ban and was handed a £5,000 fine for a rant at referee Mark Clattenburg at half-time during a match at Bolton

And during the 2008/09 campaign Ferguson was banned for two games and fined £10,000 after admitting a charge of improper conduct.

The Scot came on to the pitch to remonstrate with referee Mike Dean after United beat Hull on 1 November."

What an arrogant c**t. They should throw the book at him and dock his team points. That's the only way he'll learn.

Rafa's "facts" have caught up with him:

Florentina
Aston villa
Chelsea
Tottenham
Sunderland

How can you possibly sleep at night Dave. Chelsea have one of the worst records ever for crowding round referees and trying to influence them. The Ashley Cole affair at Spurs for example or when Mikel got sent off at Old Trafford and John Terry literally took the red card out of his hand.
And the worst offender of the lot (much worse than Ferguson) for having a go at referees is Michael Ballack. Any decision the referee makes, he feels the need to crowd him with that awful whinging face and have a moan at the ref.

Anyway, if I was a betting man, 4/1 for Arsenal to win the league. I really do think it could be there season this year and nobody is talking about them.

Hopefully we will be adding Manchester United to this list next week.

Ah what a lovely night.

Arsenal let in a late goal to draw to the mighty Alkmaar and Liverpool contine to be a quite frankly hilarious shambles.

This along with Liverpool and Chelsea losing on Saturday and City dropping points at Wigan has made it a great few days.

Great Success.

Surprisingly I always sleep really well. Which is amazing considering what's going on in my life at the moment.

What's red and invisible?

Liverpool's defence.

If Gordon Strachan is the favourite to land the Middlesborough job is it because they want to use Gareth Southgate's old training kit instead of buying new stuff? (same initials)

Might be bit roomy for Strachan but if Steve Gibson has been hit hard by the credit crunch he'll be after saving every penny he can get.

I see that there's another NFL game being played at Wembley tomorrow. It sounds like the league plans to double or quadruple the number of games over the next few years, with the intention of possibly adding a permanent team in London. Any thoughts?

Personally, I think they should establish a team or two in Canada first. They're more familiar with American football and it would be less of a curiosity.
