Take a look at how some websites looked in the old days...

Why not check out some oldies using the search. It's a bit hit and miss as to whether it works or not but I think it's a darn good thing someone had the idea to do this. Bit of social and Internet history here guys.

I'm a big fan of the Wayback Machine. It's the only way I can access some now defunct sites.

I know that the 'Naughties' has had absolutely no redeeming features culturally, but nostalgia for old Internet sites?

Are things really that bad?

But is that really any different to the way early TV shows were viewed regarding archiving? I get your point but it is interesting to see how the net developed so you can put it in context with the times.

The way these sites were designed represent technical limitations, fashion and complete learning experience. It was so new no-one knew what to do with it.

I understand exactly what you mean Tuumble and well argued. But in some cases your showing stuff that's only 4 years old.

Also, to elaborate on Tuumble's point, the pace of change in the last ten years has been phenomenal. It's like someone from the 1970s looking back to the 1920s or even earlier. It's not surprising that such a pace of change should shrink the "natural wavelength of nostalgia" ((c) Badge 2009).

Although it's not finishing until next year, I suspect that somewhere in an edit suite in London, somebody is already putting together a clip show of comics/B-list celebrities reminiscing about "the good old days when we used to love/hate Big Brother". Probably with links voiced by Jimmy Carr.

I miss the days when you could go on a favourite website and shit didn't pop up all over the screen as you dragged your mouse across.
