Repeat Submissions for News Revue

I assume all of you NR writers got this email like I did (not just me!):

I have sent old sketches when things become topical again - usually with a good edit. I know quite a few people have had success resubmitting for a new run. Are we all going to stop now?

What do you think?

David

>Thank you for all your submissions. I'd just like to take this opportunity to quickly remind you not to resubmit old sketches. We do have all of your sketches on file, especially if they have been used in the past. Most of our new directors will have seen a good few runs previous to their own and will be aware of the material in them. In an ideal world, recycling old material will happen very rarely and there is no need to resubmit sketches already in circulation. It is far more productive and useful to directors to have new sketches coming through.

I only bring this to your attention as it is happening quite frequently of late and it is taking longer to find good new sketches in the inbox due the amount of old ones resubmitted.

Keep up the good work!

Many thanks

I think you should stop resending sketches, if they've specifically emailed you to tell you to stop.

I haven't resubmitted anything and I got it so I assumed it was a blanket email.

Obviously I'm not going to p1ss them off by resending lots but I can't believe they wil trawl through the whole back catalogue themselves.

Besides loads of us have had success with resubs. Maybe too many of us. Maybe it's caught on and some people have been spamming them with everything they ever wrote every single week.

It can't have been aimed at me as I have been too busy with other less interesting things to send them anything for weeks!

I must admit I'm rather guilty of resubmitting sketches but usually because:
a) the sketch is still topical
b) my unused sketches from last run might be favoured more with the director of the new run.
c) both

I don't suppose directors go through the "collection on file" of old sketches, but it does happen on occasion.

A couple of runs ago, a director used a sketch of mine that I had been used about 6 months before, but it was probably because it was quite generic, i.e. a Gordon sketch not really related to a particular news story.
A song of mine about Gordon has also reemerged now and again.
