Writers room does read scripts

The BBC actually does read scripts.

Sent my sitcom pilot off 3 months ago, after what I have read here from others who have sent to the writers room, I was expecting to get it back in pristine condition without a comment.

Just got it back today, with it was one and a half pages of comments, lots of very helpful advice.
OK the main comment was 'we have decided not to take things further' but other words were snappy, bold, brassy, etc…
Think what let me down was characters, characters, characters, characters, characters, characters, characters, characters, characters, characters, characters, characters, characters, characters, characters, characters, bloody characters.

Getting feedback though does make me want to go off and write another one for them.

Characters don't matter in a sitcom at all, ever seen an episode of My Family?

BREAKING NEWS.......BBC WRITERSROOM DOES JOB IT WAS SET UP TO DO.............

They must have been pretty impressed they don't give out a lot of feedback.

I think it's about 10% of scripts received, so no not a lot.

Think I got that figure from a Hugh Laurie book?

If it's going to be a classic though characters matter.
Eg. Blackadder, Basil Fawlty.

Very cool.
Do they look only at UK residence scripts? I don't write scrips or anything I'm just curious.

I believe you have to be a license fee payer. Unimpressed

So if you're a resident but don't pay for TV you can't send in scripts?

Dolly's winding you up Curt.
I'm not in the UK, doesn't matter where you live just as long as it's written in English, so Americans may have a problem :D
