I just end up feeling sorry for the people he's tricking.
Like in Jackass, the stunts they play on each other are funny, but when they pretend to members of the public that they've just been run over, or dropped their baby down some steps or something, it's just uncomfortable.

Toy Story 3 trailer.

Borat was funny in places.

I din't like Borat at all, I've no desire to see Bruno, which basically looks like a pale retread of the already ghostly pale Borat.

For sure if you didn't like Borat you certainly wouldn't like Bruno (unless you reeeeally wanna see SBC waving his willy around in front of a camera).

Perhaps there in lies the problem, he's better over short periods. And Four Weddings works so well because it's essentially five sitcom episodes welded together.

I did not enjoy Four Weddings.... So much hype and such a let-down. Right from Hugh Grant saying "f**kity f**k..." at the start, all the way through to Wet Wet Wet singing Love Is All Around as the credits rolled. The only redeeming bit was seeing Charlotte Coleman. As if anyone would choose the hideous Andie MacDowell over her. I opted against watching Notting Hill, Love Actually and The Boat That Rocked. Have I missed out? The Vicar of Dibley was fun, partly due to John Bluthal but mainly because of the general absence of schmaltzy romantic guff. Though I haven't watched the final specials due to fears it ends in soppy romance.

Mostly ditto. I loved Da Ali G Show, including the Borat segments. The movie was just more of the same, but far fewer laughs and I fell asleep before the end.

I just got back from 'Zombieland' and I thought it was hilarious. So did the entire theatre it seemed. Great flick!

My son and I watched it last night. It was hilarious, but we both cringed once they introduced a love story. I think Shaun of the Dead did a better job of it.

The problem with Bruno is that it doesn't really have any "heart". Whatever Borat got up to you kind of felt some sympathy for him. Bruno is, frankly, a completely unsympathetic character. He's a one-joke idea, whereas Borat had a little more going for him. Bruno was fine for short little sketches poking fun at the vanity and shallowness of the fashion industry, but the premise fails to sustain a whole film. It has one or two truly funny moments, but the rest is contrived, predictable and often rather nasty. :(

Completely agree. What were the funny moments though?

I'm hoping to see it this week.

That's a pretty good description of me. :|

I feel like that about all shows where the public is tricked. It's not big, it's not clever and it's not funny either.

You are being very surprising recently Chip.

I agree, it just seems a bit nasty. Celebrities being made fooled of, as in Brass Eye, are fair game, but this makes me feel uncomfortable.

I haven't seen the movie but I thought his Bruno character was usually pretty innocent and funny.

When he makes fashion people look ridiculous that's fair game in my book. Although most of them honestly don't need any help, they're pretty good at just being idiots who take themselves far too seriously anyway.

The first (and actually pretty long) trailer for: The Expendables

Image
This movie has Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lndgren, Randy Couture, Stone Cold and Mickey Rourke with guest stars Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
This movie is going to be epic!

Stallone, Statham, Lundgren, Rourke. :| Looks like the A-Team gone bad.

That clip of Stallone firing some hand gun like a cowboy probably sums it up.

I'll probably still watch it though, although not at the cinema.
