Getting It Off Your Chest #1 - Video Page 2

I'm sorry, I've just seen Shoot 'Em Up so it's got me all macho. Hence the hug offer.

Hang on...

Hey, hey, hey! No hand jobs! You have to buy me dinner first!

and then I'll give you one...

Okay, but quick.

Yuk did he just Gervais in your face?' Laughing out loud

Yeah, I think he's Brent.

I'm quite shocked by the sycophancy expressed in this thread. The video is plainly not funny. The camera & lighting are fine but the act is dull. The actor looks like he thinks he's being funny but he's not. Someone needs to tell the dude so he doesn't pursue this line of not being funny. He's got talent but most of his vids are just not laugh out loud funny. Cute sometimes, but nothing to brag about or recommend. The weakest point seems to be the writing.

If there was something funny in or about this vid, it was ruined by going on much too long.

Stuart's high mark so far has been his Hitman sketch. It was fast and put together very well. Still not terribly funny but indeed amusing & interesting.

Don't mean to come across as a sourpuss but really, I couldn't stand just sitting here reading the sycophantic praise for something that is so obviously unworthy of it. I know y'all want to be supportive of anyone making an effort, but you don't do anyone any serious good when you pat them on the back for something inferior. Better to risk hurting their feelings by telling the truth in hopes it will fuel them to do better. And Stuart CAN do better.

The Skibster

But that would be lie Skibs, I really enjoyed it. I totally understand your point, but I don't think, in this instance it's valid.

If I hadn't liked it, I just wouldn't have posted on the thread.
However, it made me laugh - so I told him that.

Every now and again someone feels the need to 'do the right thing' and give 'honest' assessments which are designed to 'help' the writer. These are no more or less valid than opinions which praise a person's work but I have to say to subjectively state that a piece is objectively not funny is oxymoronic. All the previous posters have posted along the lines of 'I found it funny' so why can users not also simply state the 'I did not find it funny' instead of making blanket statements.

I apologise in advance to Stuart for having this thread hijacked by a debate but its an important debate and it should be had.

I did like the basic premise and the on/off camera discussion but it seemed to me that the piece wasn't well matched to the on-camera performer.

Scripted laughs were fairly thin on the ground and for me the piece was in need of a funnier performer to carry it off, possibly one who could have made more out of being off-footed by the off-camera voice.

Even with a stronger performance though, the material itself didn't seem to be anywhere near strong enough for such a long piece.

As a first attempt with an unedited script or if it was improv I would say it was promising but as a finished competition entry I don't think it will cut the mustard.

I did find a small part of the script and performance funny and I have tried above to give an honest and objective critique of something that is of course quite subjective.

I liked it ... Christ is that your house Stuart? Can I come and live under your snooker table please?

Laughing out loud

Yes, I really liked this one. Definately a character you could develop me thinks.

That was an active choice. I was playing a comedian who thinks he's funny, in fact this is made explicit by the off-screen voice expressing his displeasure for comedians.

Whether or not it is funny is obviously personal preference. Thank you for watching and thanks for your comments. I genuinely appreciate anyone watching and feeling compelled enough to comment. It means I've done something right!

I liked the bit with the thing, you know, the thing, the what's it.

You're lovely
