In a good way?
Smmmmooooth....
Got the day off tomorrow.
I'm getting one of those Virgin mega sky+ type thing box.
But I don't want to blind anyone with science.
They're great. You can instantly record all your favourite weather forecasts and watch them at your leisure.
Tim is wondering if he will ever finish his new script.
Quote: Sammy @ October 12 2009, 11:32 PM BSTBasically the jist of it was that I would *maybe* be alright enough looking to do the role if I had a TONNE of make-up on and the role wasn't even asking for someone that good looking in the first place.
Anyway you guys have cheered me up so thank you. I'll be laughing about it in a bit.
I didn't used to feel I was pretty, because I thought that pretty people were happy and popular. Never minded it too much, though. How I look is how I look. Strangely enough, I been hired for some roles just because people liked the way I looked. It's a hollow result.
I personally think you look lovely in every picture I have seen. If you think of the most lovely actors & actresses you know and visit their IMDB pages, someone will always be slagging their looks. There is no universal pretty.
Glad you feel better

Quote: RubyMae - Glamourous Snowdrop at Large @ October 12 2009, 11:52 PM BSTIt gets easier. Still hurts but you will get to a point it has a rubber effect.
It's the problem with being a young female in the arts. Guys tend to be able to look as ugly as sin and still play amazing parts but women get it quite hard. You can look like Scarlett Johanson and someone will call you generic.
Really? I would've thought men got it just as bad in this industry. Look at the success of Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp etc etc.

Before you know it they'll be ringing you up and asking if you're on the bog!
I slept for eight hours last night.
Not one of life's major achievments, but the most I can manage at the moment.

Was it the dandelion and burdock or the ice cream soda?
Both. And exhaustion.

I think you missed the point of what I was saying. My point is that when you look at great male roles in theatre and performance , appearance isn't a major factor. Playwrights from Shakespears right up to modern day have written some incrediable and powerful works with men in the primary role. There are many actors in the mainstream who have not got those looks but still get to play these roles and have great careers out of them. You don't have to be Johnny Depp to play Hamlet for example. Great female roles however are sadly not as common, they do exist, but are not as common and the majority tend to be sort "romanticised" figures or comedy roles. It is actually a recognised issue in the industry that young white females will have the toughest time finding good roles and work in more naturalistic theatre because there is basically so many of them in the industry and so few good roles. It's one of the reasons I stopped doing that kind of stuff and started doing physical theatre. There are no set roles and most people don't give a damn about your face.
I like acting, but know I would be cast in 'character' roles (i.e the weird looking ones)

I was always the comedy relief and while I like making people laugh it got to me a lot. I am not saying I was ever that amazing an actress but I have seen too many times good female roles go to lousy female performers based on looks. It's little wonder when that happens the pressure is so bad and it's worse when you are very young there isn't exception just because you are an impressionable kid.
