My father has told me that he wanted to name me Gretchen if I had turned out to be a girl. I don't think my mother would have allowed it, as I'm pretty sure that was his girlfriend's name when he was in high school. I saw a photo of her a few years ago and she was HOT. Marilyn-Monroe-with-a-tennis-racket-hot.

After reaching an agreement that we wouldn't name our kids after anyone, my ex-wife slipped an extra middle name (her mother's) into my daughter's birth certificate. I was incensed and retaliated with my father's name when my son was born. She desperately wanted to add her father's middle name too, but I threatened her with bodily harm if she saddled my son with the name "Elmer."

I used to work with a Filipino guy called Elmer. And did you know that Trey Parker of South Park fame is actually named Randolph Severn Parker III (hence Trey for 'the third').

At school I was known as Chicken. (Because of the Hen thing). Some people tried calling me Spotty because of my rampant acne but I wasn't having any of that.

Everybody calls me Vin.

Really.

Go on, call me Vin.
