48 Hour Film Project - Jane P Page 2

Great stuff, well done!

Congratulations Jane. Think you guys did a great job. Especially as the character/ line etc directed your story. As mentioned, some of the films at our screening felt like they were written prior with the line and prop delivered as throw aways. Tut tut. I'll whack ours up for a critique in a mo.

where are the laughs, eh? This is the BCG, with C for Comedy!!! I would have liked to see more humour. Not enough orange gags, for me...

>_< We got flipping fantasy Badge not comedy or the one I really wanted 'Mockumentary' - that would have been the best fun to make. We did actually discuss lots of orange themed ideas but as we had three actors on standby decided they might not wish to be upstaged. :)

Aye, good score. Looking at the content criteria, my first thought was a banker named Jamie Delgado (son of Roger Delgado) being found dead, hanging from a ceiling fan with an orange in his mouth and dressed in some sort of fetish outfit. The woman who finds him comments: "I hope it isn't swine flu." Probably a bit too obvious though.

:D I had a similar thought but they say don't go with your first idea so perhaps wisely we sidestepped that can of worms.

I enjoyed it, Jane. It was very 'Twilight Zone' (I'm a fan of all 3 seies and '... The Movie'!). Best performance by far was by 'The Trickster (John Helier). Also, the music was perfect for the film. Your writing with Mike Smith was natural and didn't grate like a lot of drama shorts I've seen on YouTube.

Just one nit-pick; if a guy (especially Jamie) is wearing a designer suit and someone soils it; I think they'd more likely name the designer (if nothing else, to impress). e.g. - "See that? - Bloody Ralph Lauren, this is 'an all".

All in all though; very good job! :)

I agree John Helier was great in it and to work with. I was a little concerned while relaxing in the park he started babbling some weird stuff - then I found out he was rehearsing for panto so it was OK. We got lucky he could juggle even if he was worried he was a bit out of practice - so we got something for the bloopers reel too.

Yes that line would be better - the only thing was we initally wanted more effects but there wasn't the time or expertise on the day. His hand was meant to leave a dark mark which spread... As we didn't have any costumes sorted I dashed off to a charity shop to see what I could find. Calling a five pound jacket Ralph Lauren could have got us sued. :)

No, if I was showing off I'd have said the leading actress won an award at the Sundance film festival for her performance. She was really very good, the film itself though, I'd maybe give a 1-2 out of 5. But still not bad for a couple of weeks shooting and £70k ish budget. It was bloody hard work but just the most fantastic time. One of the most enjoyable uses of annual leave.

Excellent! I agree - everyone should have at least one go at filmmaking - if only to appreciate everything that goes into it.

Thank you Michael - I have to say everyone's been much kinder than I expected. There are gaping flaws in this but you've not focussed on those!

Yes Simon - get it up there - I enjoyed watching yours and will do again. Completely different from ours and all the others which is what makes the screenings fun too.

and the award for longest reply in a thread goes to....

You're joking of course.

Nice one, Jane. Congratulations. :)

Very good Jane.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but the audio is very up and down. The first scene in particular is very quite, then it's louder then quiet again, then louder still. Hope this helps.

No, just making excuses. :$

Hi Nil - yes there seems to be a problem with the audio. Not sure what happened there. We also had a problem visually at the actual screening, something about rendering? I know nothing about the technical side but I think it was down to lack of time as the edit was still going on in the drive to the drop off!

Ah, ok. :)

Finally got round to watching this and I have to say well done Jane. Though being condemned to pass on a near fatal disease because you're a bit of a div seems a bit harsh.

Surely the female half of the couple who puts up with and encourages the div to be a div should have been the one targeted as she's an enabler? ;)

I'd never seen special effects by Pizza Hut though, so that was a first. If I have any real complaints, it's with the technical aspects particularly the editing and the overuse of dissolves - however if the director gave the editor no other choice, then blame lies there too.

Congrats Jane, I enjoyed it.
