Far Out - The UK's First Online Lesbian Drama

I put this in General as it's more of a comedy drama than a sitcom.

I went to a screening of the pilot episode today which I think they're posting on their site soon:

I suspect it won't attract a huge following from here but I thought one or two may be interested. It took a while to get going but I enjoyed it. It helped that a friend of mine is in it but that aside I'm still looking forward to the next episode and hope they get some proper funding/ backing soon.

It's a bit like a female version of Queer as Folk - an attempt to get past all the stereotypes etc. I don't think it's perfect yet but there are some nice relationships in there and a good mixture of comedy and drama. And they've done it all without any real budget.

I'm posting this here with some trepidation so please try and keep any comments sensible!

:)

Haha, but you probably know what's inevitably coming Jane :)

Will give it a go.

Hey Jane,

had a quick look and enjoyed it. As you say it's comedy drama, so it's not laugh out loud, but it's good, and a very polished production.

Hopefully they get the funding they need as it has potential.

I thought Queer As Folk was nothing but stereotypes. Great eye candy for folk who like to watch men kissing, but otherwise like a gay soap opera version of Sex and the City. Not all gay men bitch constantly about their relationships and spend their spare time in crowded nightclubs that play crap music. I'd much rather see realistic gay characters, such as Mr Humphries, Daffyd Thomas, Lieutenant Gruber and Julian Clary.

I liked the Irish one. Weren't most of the cast actually straight? I do know gay men who liked the show.

Queer As Folk was great. The Irish one was fantastic. :) (All the main three were straight in real life.)

They did make it look a bit like being gay was chiefly about clubbing, but that was just what those particular 3 characters were up to I suppose. And what the writer's experiences were.

I never saw the original QAF by Russell T. Davies. Some of the cast of the US version were gay, some straight.

Did it include the Dr Who worship?

I was thinking this might be up your street after she mentioned it being like QAF. Did you manage to get Aaron into that in the end? :)

Ha! Haven't had the chance yet.

Never liked the US version, well the bits that I saw.

Not enough explicit man-on-man action for you, zooo? ;)

Heh!
They were all plastic and boring and LA. Bleh.
And I think they changed the 15 year old schoolboy to like an 18/20 year old.
Kind of missing the point.

Could only manage 5 minutes of this show before losing interest. Far too earnest and twee, almost bordering on a parody of what you'd think a bad lesbian drama would be like. The acting was poor and the script awful. :(

None whatsoever (that I'm aware of) in the US version. Although I saw (snoozed through/read books during) only the first three series. I had a girlfriend who was quite a fan, insisted on watching it.

For hot men-raping-men action, you can't beat Oz. Great show, even if it did get a bit silly toward the end.
