Maybe.

He was my favourite thoooooough. Curse the world! *shakes fist*

I have pretty much zero tolerance for people who use the 'P' or the 'N' word. I personally don't think these words can ever be said wholly innocently. People who use them in a "humourous" or "innocent" way always seem to be those who harbour low-level racist views, no matter how much they insist otherwise. Yes, they can be used "ironically", but rarely are in real life. :(

'Prat' and 'Nincompoop'?

Yes, dear. Rolling eyes

I would agree with Tim. Racism is something I have never understood. There is certianly an age issue with racism as well, many older people have these "views" my mum insits on using the word coloured. She thinks she is terriably PC!

"I'm not racist but..."

Rolling eyes

Oh bugger, I've been deared.

I have to agree there. If the person who says it finds it acceptable, it's concerning that they don't get it.

I don't think that's especially a racist word. It's a little clumsy and occasionally patronising, a word the older generation tend to use by habit. It's rarely used with any malicious intent though (thesedays).

What's the "p" word? I don't mean to sound ignorant. I hear the "N" word at least a dozen times a day from the guys across the way, but they're black and are okay with using it if it's them.

Rightly or wrongly this is probably going to ruin his career, the way things seem to go at the moment (see Carol Thatcher's Golliwog episode), so he's an idiot for not forseeing that, at the very least.

Strictly star sorry over race slur.

The word's in this report, Andie. ;) As we have a generations of British Pakistanis, it's very much a taboo word. It was commonly used in an overtly racist way during the 1960s, 70s & early 80s - it's not really got any innocent usage in this country. :(

I remember at school we had a Japanese teacher who was driven out by racial abuse. It wasn't the kids that upset her so much because she knew of our schools rep. It was the fact the headmaster refused to do anything about it, even when they vandised her car. He told her by reacting she would just egg them on.

He was a git. The Overlord once had to be pulled off him as he tried to wallop him during a meeting about my bullying problem.

'Paki', Andrea. I've actually heard Americans use it entirely innocently, like shortening the word British to Brit.

But it has a lot of racist baggage in England.

Gotcha. I've only ever heard it here while traveling in Florida, where there is a large Pakistani population. I don't think there was a negative connotation to it though.
