The Weather Page 34

The lights are flickering and thunder is scaring my cat. It's raining hard enough that there are probably high water rescues being performed somewhere in town.

Cuddle kitty!

Cuddle kitty!

He's knocked over my clothes hamper and is huddled in my dirty clothes. He'll knock it over 15 times a day if I keep picking it back up.

I've been awake since 3 a.m. due to heavy thunderstorms. The last 3 hours have been like an artillery barrage inside a strobe light factory. FlashBang! FlashBang! FlashBang!

Looks like we've already had 6 inches of rain so far. Good for the grass, bad for driving and even worse for the ACL festival which has become a mud pit for the first time in its history. Not sure I want to make the drive up there today.

Still, better than the drought?

Sure, but the damage has already been done. My veggies are mostly dead and so are large patches of my lawn. At one time we were 15 inches below the normal rainfall for the year, but we've had about a foot of rain over the last 3 weeks and now we're only 3 inches below normal.

This is the largest city in the country that depends on an underground aquifer for its water. Hopefully all this rain will replenish it to a level that takes us off of watering restrictions. It's really annoying when you're only allowed to water your lawn or wash your car on a certain day of the week for a couple hours at a time.

I can't imagine living with such extremes of weather. We're just stuck in the middle here - bit soggy - bit warm. It's great! :D

We get into the negatives here in February and then into triple digits at times in July and August. I look forward to your rainy middle of the road weather very much.

I've read about blizzards and floods and heatwaves and tornadoes in the UK. This country is so huge that we have just about every type of climate and weather you can imagine. For the most part it's very mild and enjoyable.

I always thought that NY had roughly the same weather as the UK.

Yeah, but they just about lift crisp packets.

Yeah sure, tiny unnoticable things that do no more damage than shuffling a few crisp packets about.

Yeah, but they just about lift crisp packets.

Laughing out loud
