Is it just cos it's Gervais maybe, and bones are being picked wherever possible?

Quite, the Gervais haters really like to stick it to him at every opportunity it seems. Plus, this thread isn't supposed to be about whether the person who wrote a show is, or is not, a c**t; it's about shows you think are overrated.

OFAH. It is good, but not THAT good.

I don't like it whenever Gervais says 'all British comedy is shit except The Office' I think that makes him seem rather arsey.

Doesn't he like Peep Show as well? But yeah, it's not like he seems to be searching very hard, Sean Lock's was just as brill I thought but that gets thrown with the trash as well. I suppose that's generalizations, though (in general).

Yeah I think he just looks at the mainstream stuff. Which in general I actually agree with. But he doesn't clarify, he basically says it's all shite. As you say, if you look hard enough you can find some real gems.

As for Ricky Gervais he's not much better really, just a waste of space and the fill in emergency guest on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross.

:D

So why has no-one accused John Cleese, Dudley Moore etc etc etc, of selling out to Hollywood?

Because, AFAIK, they never turned around and shat on their original fans, colleagues, industry... You get the picture.

But his fans would surely know that that's what he is, that's his act?

His fans do, the people who've decided to hate him no matter what, don't. :)

By what measure?

I don't hate Gervais at all, I just find it slightly dissapointing that, as one of my comedy heroes, he is a bit of a bullshitter. Dudley Moore and John Cleese have made some crappy hollywood films but they have never to my knowledge ponfiticated about artistic credibility the way Gervias has.
The worst example of this was how he went on about how he refused to have a David Brent doll made and criticised Little Britain for bringing out merchandise, if he is so against commerialism why would he make a film like the lying one which is clearly aimed at the masses?

1. Only Fools & Horses
2. Dad's Army
3. Porridge

By what measure?

By my measure?
Or by the same measure as every other sitcom mentioned in this thread?
Not too sure what you mean.

Hancock's Half Joke
Stepson and Toe
It Ain't Half Shit Mum

I agree with the last one.

Is this one of the guys in the office . ?

It's a wind up, right?

Ok, Ok, I give in, what did you really mean ?

Well, yes. If it is an act. And his fans continue to suck his cock. But it's the people who aren't fans who don't see it as an act.
