New Direction

Hi Folks,

Here's a new one, sadly written so I can record it on my own for my Podcast as Austin is at the Fringe.

See what you think.

New Direction
Radio Sketch
By John Burns

EXT:Day-interior of car
Dave is driving to the shops using his satellite navigation system.

Sat Nav:At the next roundabout turn left.

Dave:Oh God.

Sat Nav:Turn left

Dave:All right... I bloody heard you.

Sat Nav:You have arrived.

Dave:Is this it? Oh God. Another Saturday at Tesco's, 2lb of sprouts a frozen chicken and an evening of flatulence in front of the X factor. That's it. The rest of my life's stretching before me.

Sat Nav:Please press life crisis button.

Dave:What?

Sat Nav:Please press life crisis button.

Dave:The life... here it is. Never noticed...

SFX:BLEEP

Sat Nav:Thank you. Would you like to go somewhere else?

Dave:What? Can you talk to me?

Sat Nav:Of course. You talk to me.

Dave:What? Go somewhere else? Where?

Sat Nav:Anywhere, the choice is limitless.

Dave:Okay then, take me somewhere, somewhere different.

Sat Nav:Turn right.

FX:TRAVEL SOUNDS

Sat Nav:You have arrived

Dave:My God, look at this place everything is so...so green and new. Where are we?

Sat Nav:This is a parallel universe Dave, here all jokes will be funny, the X Factor is never on and women won't think you're a bit odd.

Dave:This is incredible! Was it here all the time?

Sat Nav:All the time Dave.

Dave:Amazing, I'm off to explore, see you later, thanks Sat Nav. (exit Dave)

FX: CAR DOOR CLOSING

Sat Nav:Sad isn't it. I've only taken him to Asda.

Ends

Been incredibly busy so not done much with Purple Comedy. Only made a couple of short posts recently, latest on is a 5 min short on Al-Magrahi.

Have a listen. http://standupcomedy.podomatic.com/

The Satnav that has a mind of it's own is a pretty old trope and this doesn't do much new with it.

That said the idea about a guy going over the top about going to a new supermarket is plenty sweet. Also the Satnav breaking the 4th wall is rather crude.

Ok I read it ;) pretty much thought what sootyj said. It's been done on here a few times I think (janep and dan collaboration recently) but the different supermarket bit was good. :)

Hi recorded this sketch and it is now out on the latest Purple Comedy Episode.

Let me know what you think.
