When is Bill Wyman going to be arrested?
Roman Polanski Arrested! Page 2

True, there's a strange lack of consistency over public outrage. For example, the Jonathan King trial. Not wishing to defend what King did for a moment, but in the era of the (it has to be said, some fairly consensual) crimes he was convicted of, it was unfortunately common practice for the rich and famous of pop to have sex with underage teens. The difference was that Jonathan King was a pompous, unsexy famous person and his crimes were homosexual in nature. Around the time of the infamous Walton Hop etc, there were plenty of heterosexual pop stars having their way with young girls, but no convictions there, of course.
It's not so much the outrage about these issues which bothers me (I think people should be brought to justice no matter how rich or famous they are), but the level of inconsistency and hypocrisy does annoy.
Elvis?

And 'Repulsion', and 'Rosemary's Baby'; brilliant films!

Where?
Quote: Dolly Dagger @ September 28 2009, 9:37 AM BSTNot referring to any specific cases, because I don't know the facts, I probably have quite controverial views on the subject of under-age sex (not rape). There is a huge difference between some 13 year olds and not all are children.
Also, let's not forget that different parts of the world have different ages of consent. I think it's as low as 13 in some areas like Spain.

Didn't Jerry Lee Lewis have it away with his own underage cousin? Or Niece? Or family pet? Or something?

I think in Spain it's 14.

Nogget's feeling a little worried now.
Yes if he'd done it in Spain or France I doubt if there would have even been much said about it. But he did it in America, Cailfornia I believe, which has old puritan laws on this sort of thing. He should really have thought about this.

Yes. That's the problem. It was going to turn into a circus, not a fair trial. There's all kinds of stuff out there. There're only two people who really know the answer.
The rights and wrongs of the age of sexual consent don't really do anything to solve the problems caused by it.
The whole attitude to sex in our society is dictated far too much by seeing it as a right, with too little emphasis on the responsibilities which come with engaging in it. Not just the rich and famous blame their lack of self-control on the notion that somehow sex is something which can't be helped due to their emotions. It was "in the heat of the moment", they "couldn't help their feelings" etc.
Well, like lust, anger is an emotion. Yet people don't generally believe that gives you the right to go around hitting anyone who angers you.

I remember seeing the documentary about this; did they change the judge during the trial, from a sympathetic one to a hardliner? I remember thinking, as I watched it, that we were only really getting Polanski's side of the story though, plus the vitim's comments, which we weren't in a position to judge. As you say, without a trial, it's all speculation.
There seems to be a massive double standard here.
Funky film director is accused of commiting a crime. Sympathy for him.
Jonathon King et al geeky unlikeable star, boo hiss ban him!
Being cool and having a tragic background is no get out of jail free crime.
Polanski was accused of a very serious crime. He should stand trial in a court in the land where said crime was commited. He may be found innocent, he may not.
France's offering him assylum but not to genuine assylum seekers is plain disgusting.
Would agree with Sooty
