Roman Polanski Arrested!

\0/ Yay! Freaky child rapist Roman Polanski has been arrested at last. And it's pissed off the French Government as well - double bubble!

For those unaware of his crimes -

In 1977, Polanski, then aged 44, became embroiled in a scandal involving 13-year-old Samantha Gailey (now known as Samantha Geimer. Polanski was initially charged with rape by use of drugs, perversion, sodomy, lewd and lascivious act upon a child under 14, and furnishing a controlled substance (methaqualone) to a minor. These charges were dismissed under the terms of his plea bargain, and he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.

Polanski went to Switzerland to pick up a lifetime a achievement award, but now he's going back to America in chains.

The Froggy Minister for Harbouring Child Rapists has said he's very unhappy that Polanski has been arrested over 'an unfortunate incident in his past'.

I for one, hope he rots in jail until he be very dead. Wouldn't it be great if they put him in the cell next to Charles Manson?

You might want to make contact with Baumski and Frankie Rage. They have offered to 'hang' designated paedophiles on this forum in the past.

I find it hard to summon up any sympathy for rich men who drug and rape 13-year-old girls.

R.I.P., Roman.

I read that the girl (now a woman) has dropped all charges. I wonder what that will have on the case?

After a large cash settlement, of course.

And there are abused women who don't want their husbands to go to jail ...

Hooray let's hope the CIA now assassinates Jerry Lee Lewis.

He made some of my all time favourite movies.

Maybe they can let him direct some films in prison?

Didn't know about his past - no doubt there will be loads of luvie types defending the man.

Are there any other famous folk with a pedo past?

God yes! And while we might like to think that their fame should not be any factor in justice, they often get sympathetic treatment.

Eric Gill is one of the UK's best examples. He was a deeply religious man, and his artwork is highly rated. He also admitted that he sexually abused his own children, had an incestuous relationship with his sister and performed sexual acts on his dog.

Polanski was a fool to pick up any award on his own. He knew the Americans still wanted to bring him to trial. That will be his career over now once the case hits all the headlines again. I do feel that this arrest will not help US-French relations, which were showing signs of recovery. The French are very protective of their favourites, and he was an idol at Cannes in particular.

Somehow I think the US can live without US affection.

As for Eric Gill at least it was his own dog.

Ho-hum. It's wrong that he fled from having a court case in the first place. Without one, the true facts of the case become mired in years of speculation.

Not that he deserves a "pass" if these allegations were true, but he did deserve some sympathy a few years before when his pregnant wife (Sharon Tate) was murdered in cold blood by that charming American nuclear family, the Waltons Mansons.

Oh, and he directed Chinatown, which was brilliant...

I suppose, overall though, that "justice delayed is justice denied", whatever the outcome.

I thought he'd admitted it?

His lawyers apparently had a plea bargain reneged on, leading to him fleeing abroad. What he admitted is a matter of speculation. Without a proper court case it's difficult to say for certain what happened 31 years ago. It's all so many rumours really.
