Whatever Became of the Father of Invention?

Hello all. Anyone care to comment on this?

INT. DINGY SHACK – DAY

An overweight MAN wearing a threadbare dressing gown and three-day old stubble crouches over a workbench laid out with assorted household objects.

Among them are length of plumber’s pipe, an oven lighter, the receiver of a phone, a roll of gaffa tape, a marble and a bottle of lighter fluid.

He goes to work on the items, piecing them together and fashioning them into some new creation.

When he turns around we see he has crafted a crude pistol. Tears well in his eyes as he places the muzzle in his mouth.

Cut to:

EXT. SHACK – CONTINUOUS

A GUNSHOT rings out, scaring a flock of birds from a telegraph line.

Pull back to reveal the name on the mailbox.

“MacGYVER”.

Brilliant for MacGYVER fans maybe but I had to look him up on Google. I do recall seeing the show but had forgotten all about it until your post!

I think if I was a big fan of the show I would have found it funny.

Yes, I did wonder the same thing, but I figured since it's name-checked so often in the Simpsons and still playing in syndication, I could risk it.

At first it went right over my head but now I see there is a MacGyver link all becomes clear except for the fact that as I've never watched MacGyver, sadly, I'm still in the dark.

Also, you could do a series of sketches about what happened to old TV heroes whose shows are now off air or no longer being made.
