Two boys

A quick dialogue sketch, but I'm not sure that it works. It's meant to be between two boys, but......

'Are you?'

'What?'

'You know'

'No I don't'

'Are you....it!'

'Am I what?'

'It!'

'What's it?'

'Don't be silly wi' me. Just answer - yes or no!'

'How can I answer if I don't know what your asking me!'

'What, no speakee eenglish! Are you it....yes or no?'

'I might be, or I might not be.'

'Oh stuff this....I'm telling.'

'What?'

'Not what, who!'

'Who, what?'

'What?'

'No, you said who, not what.'

'Who, what?'

'You said your telling, and I said what, and you said who, so what you telling, and to who?'

'Why?'

'Why, what?'

'Why should I tell you what I'm telling, and who I'm telling what to?'

'Why not?'

'Why should I?'

'Why shouldn't you tell me what your telling and who your telling what to?'

'Because!'

'Cos' what?'

'What?'

'Why because?'

'Because you won't say if your it, or not'

'It?'

'If your it!'

'Am I?'

'That's it, I'm telling.'

'What?'

'Misssssss, he ain't playing tag properly!'

'What?'

'Oh, I give up. I going inside.'

I really don't know what to say about this.

It could possibly be carried off by [dressed-up] adults. I say this because the timing required is almost certainly beyond the ability of suitably-aged actors.

If performed by adults, I think it needs a bit more to the dialogue than who, what, why etc.

Thanks for taking the time to read it, Geoff. I was never sure it could work if read out by a child, because of the timing as you say.
